Job Summary

xLight is seeking a Senior Engineering Manager responsible for leading engineering teams and overseeing the full lifecycle of superconducting accelerator component development—from requirements and design through fabrication, integration, and commissioning. This role blends engineering oversight, technical leadership, and program execution, including Level 2 responsibility for cost, schedule, and scope within an Earned Value Management System (EVMS).

The ideal candidate is a seasoned leader with deep mechanical engineering experience, strong project management capability, and a proven track record delivering highly technical hardware systems.

Technical & Engineering Leadership

  • Provide technical direction and oversight for the design, analysis, and integration of accelerator components.
  • Guide engineering staff in best practices for system design, configuration control, and documentation standards.
  • Lead design reviews, technical risk assessments, and readiness evaluations across all project phases.
  • Ensure engineering outputs meet performance, manufacturability, cost, and quality requirements.

Project Delivery & Execution

  • Own the delivery of major engineering work packages, ensuring milestones, budgets, and deliverables are met.
  • Act as a Level 2 Manager for assigned technical scope within EVMS.
  • Develop, maintain, and report on schedules, cost accounts, earned value metrics, and performance indicators.
  • Proactively identify technical, schedule, and cost risks and implement mitigation strategies.

Team Management & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of mechanical engineers, analysts, and project engineers.
  • Serve as the primary interface between engineering, program management, manufacturing, procurement, and quality teams.
  • Support vendor engagement and oversee the fabrication and assembly of precision components.
  • Promote a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and high-quality execution.
