The Full-Time Instructor, Dental Hygiene is a 12-month faculty position responsible for providing classroom,laboratory, and clinical instruction in the Dental Hygiene program. The instructor will prepare and delivercourse materials, assess student learning outcomes, advise students, and participate in curriculum andprogram development.
The instructor will work collaboratively within the Dental Programs team and the Forsyth Tech CommunityDental Clinic to ensure excellence in teaching and learning, compliance with CODA accreditation standards,and continuous program improvement.

Minimum Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene, Education or related science. Note: Degrees and hours must be from a college accredited by a United States Department of Education accepted accrediting agency such as SACSCOC.
  • Clinical practice experience in Dental Hygiene in a dental office setting.
  • Current unencumbered Dental Hygiene license (RDH).
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Evidence of continuing education requirements to maintain RDH licensure.
  • Understand and be committed to the unique nature and role of the college.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferred:

  • Successful teaching experience to include assessment of student learning outcomes.
  • Experience in didactic, pre-clinical and clinical teaching.
  • At least 3 years dental office experience as a practicing Dental Hygienist
  • Member of American Dental Hygiene Association (ADHA)
  • Current CDA or willing to obtain after hire

Essential Duties

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: include the following and other duties as needed.
Teaching and Learning:

  • Provide effective classroom, laboratory, and clinical instruction to Dental Hygiene students, ensuring alignment with program outcomes and CODA standards.
  • Develop, prepare, and deliver course materials that promote engagement, and skill mastery.
  • Supervise and evaluate students in clinical and pre-clinical settings, providing feedback and individualized guidance.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of attendance, grades, and clinical competencies.
  • Demonstrate clinical techniques and current dental hygiene practices in accordance with Industry standards.
  • Promote retention and student success by identifying and addressing learning challenges.
  • May include occasional teaching in the Dental Assisting program based on departmental needs.

Curriculum Development:

  • Maintain, review, and update course descriptions, objectives, and syllabi to reflect current industry and accreditation standards.
  • Participate in program evaluation and continuous improvement activities.
  • Make recommendations regarding equipment, supplies, repairs, and textbook adoption.
  • Support program accreditation efforts, including data collection, reports, and site visit preparation.
  • Contribute to new course or program development that aligns with workforce needs.

Advising:

  • Provide academic and professional advising to students.
  • Use the college's student information system to track and support advisee progress.
  • Encourage professionalism, ethical practice, and lifelong learning among students.
  • Participate in departmental and college-wide advising activities and trainings.
  • Follow up on all assigned advisees.

Professional Development:

  • Develop a professional development plan that is approved by the Program Coordinator/Director and then the dean and participate in those activities that achieve approved professional development activities.
  • Maintain current licensure, certifications required for the position.
  • Engage in professional growth activities including conferences, workshops, and continuing education.
  • Maintain membership and participation in relevant professional organizations (e.g., ADHA).
  • Stay current with emerging trends, technology, and best practices in dental hygiene education.
  • Participate in on-campus professional development activities.

Institutional Service:

  • Adhere to all Forsyth Tech policies, procedures, and core values.
  • Attend and participate in department, division, and college-wide meetings.
  • Serve on college committees and task forces as assigned.
  • Support college initiatives in student success and community engagement.

Community Relations:

  • Maintain relationships with clinical sites and professional partners to ensure high-quality clinical education.
  • Participate in advisory board meetings and support community outreach events.
  • Promote the program and the college through public relations opportunities and professional networks.
