TITLE:Program Engagement Assistant (Part-time-24-27 hours per week)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Program Engagement Assistant assists with the general operations of the Community Engagement Center (CEC), a social day program designed to provide safe, dynamic programming for older adults and individuals with dementia and provide support to caregivers. Responsibilities include working collaboratively with others to create a clean, safe, and comfortable environment, assisting with care needs, helping to plan and facilitate activities, and being actively engaged with participants throughout the day. This is a grant funded position through June 2026.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent and at least one year experience working with older adults and people living with dementia or home health aide experience preferred.
  • Ability to interact with people who are living with dementia individually and in groups
  • Good listening and engagement skills
  • Comfort with providing some personal care assistance
  • ServSafe Food Handler certification is a plus
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks
  • Understanding of group dynamics
  • Enthusiastic about providing programs to older adults and those with dementia
  • Ability to follow and respond to instruction
  • Ability to work in a changing environment based on participant needs

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a clean and safe environment
  • Serve snacks and meals
  • Lead group activities in an organized manner
  • Actively engage participants throughout the day
  • Observation and oversight of participants for their safety
  • Encourage participants to do tasks as independently as possible
  • Assist participants as needed, including hands-on assistance with toileting and transfers
  • Participate in agency training and meetings as requested.
  • Demonstrate commitment to our mission, values, and principles of diversity, equity, inclusion, and well-being.
  • Use of personal cell phone, data plans, and downloading of company app required
  • Other related duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION:

This position reports to the CEC Program Coordinator

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Physical:

Visual, speaking, auditory and mobile capacity necessary

Capacity to see computer screens and read written material

Capacity to hear and speak clearly and concisely

Capacity to communicate verbally with consumers, surrogates/caregivers, supervisors and managers

Capacity for fine manipulation in the frequent use of utensils, craft supplies, or other materials

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time

Ability to assist participants with basic ADL functions including but not limited to dressing and cleaning

Occasional reaching and grabbing objects with both hands, twisting of hand and wrist, and pushing and pulling of objects

Occasional bending, squatting, and twisting to perform work functions

Occasional capacity to lift up to 40 pounds

Mental:

Ability to understand and/or interpret program instructions

Capacity to deal rationally and calmly with varying personalities

Capacity to work well in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment

Environmental:

Work is primarily indoors, with occasional outside functions

Must be able to tolerate heat and cold of seasonal changes and indoor temperatures
