Associate Attorney

Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and passionate Associate Attorney to join our legal team in Hilo. The ideal candidate will have experience in family law and a strong commitment to advocating for clients in emotionally sensitive legal matters. This role involves handling a diverse caseload, representing clients in court proceedings, and providing strategic legal counsel. Job will be mostly remote, occasional travel to Hilo for hearings may be required and will be paid for by the company.

Key Responsibilities

• Represent clients in family law cases, including divorce, custody, paternity, guardianship, and restraining orders
• Draft pleadings, motions, settlement agreements, and other legal documents
• Conduct legal research and stay updated on Hawaii family law statutes and case law
• Advocate for clients in court hearings, trials, and mediations
• Engage in case strategy discussions and settlement negotiations
• Communicate professionally with clients, opposing counsel, court staff, and third parties
• Maintain accurate case documentation and manage deadlines efficiently
• Provide mentorship and guidance to legal support staff and paralegals
• Required Qualifications
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
• Active license to practice law in Hawaii (or eligibility for admission)
• 2+ years of experience in family law or a related practice area preferred
• Strong litigation, negotiation, and client advocacy skills
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion and professionalism
• Experience with legal research tools (Westlaw, LexisNexis) and case management software (Clio, MyCase, or similar)
