Performs a variety of imaging procedures under the supervision of a qualified physician and is responsible for patient safety protocols. Uses X-ray and CT technology and techniques to assist in the diagnosis of patient medical problems for patients throughout the age continuum.

- *Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
- *Performs all types of X-ray and CT studies to include diagnostic and interventional procedures, practices radiation safety for patients, staff and self.
- *Uses sterile technique as required.
- Performs venipuncture.
- *Competently operates all X-ray/CT equipment and support systems in include HIS, RIS, Scheduling System, PACS, teleradiology, performs and evaluates images for technical quality.
- Cleans, disinfects and maintains equipment as necessary; notifies manager of equipment problems and calls appropriate service vendors as needed.
- *Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing treatment and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns and extraneous radiation or radiofrequency burns to patients.
- *Determines most suitable anatomical posture and positions.
- Performs regular warm-up sequences on the CT scanner to prolong the life of the X-ray tubes.
- *Analyzes patient histories and completes screenings for metal, implants and devices.
- Keeps work area properly supplied.
- Assesses patient pain interfering with imaging procedure and makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
- Coordinates exams within the department and with other departments to provide expedient and complete care.
- Handles telephone calls for scheduling, coordination or questions with courtesy and accuracy.
- *Practices medical and surgical aseptic procedures.
- Participates in the department's quality improvement plan as required.
- Keeps work area properly supplied.
- Assists with new employee training and student clinical education as directed.
- Accesses and administers drugs and biologicals that are pertinent to essential job functions in accordance with Medical Center procedures.
- Performs all quality control (QC) checks, as prescribed and maintains accurate QC logs, service records, etc.
- *Uses computerized tomography and radiographic equipment to capture diagnostic images of patients' internal organs and tissues.
- Assesses the patient's heart rate and calls RN if intervention is needed to acquire quality images.
- Transports patients by bed or wheelchair.
- Assists the Radiologist during Interventional procedures.
- Performs highest quality imaging consistent with prescribed examination, documents, and deviation.
- Provides care appropriate to condition and age of the patient, including pediatric, geriatric, and general population.
- Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise.
- Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned.
- Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
Education And Experience
Graduate from a school of radiologic technology with current certification by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) required. Valid state of Nebraska Medical Radiographer license required. Certification in CT preferred.
Other Credentials / Certifications
Basic Life Support (CPR) certification required. Bryan Health recognizes American Heart Association (for healthcare professionals), American Red Cross (for healthcare professionals) and the Military Training Network.
