Role Overview
We are seeking an
Application Engineer
with experience developing applications for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), ideally using
Tulip
. This engineer will help convert paper-based manufacturing and quality processes into electronic workflows within a cloud-based MES environment.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience creating MES applications, working in manufacturing environments, and collaborating with Manufacturing Engineers to translate production processes into well-structured digital workflows. Tulip experience is strongly preferred, but candidates with strong MES application development experience in other systems will be considered.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently specify, plan, design, develop, test, and support assigned software components.
- Translate manufacturing and quality requirements into well-structured, documented MES applications.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design electronic workflows that accurately reflect production routing, assembly steps, testing processes, and quality checkpoints.
- Contribute to project scheduling including scope definition, task sequencing, and timeline estimation.
- Report progress to leadership and proactively communicate risks or delays.
- Propose solutions to maintain schedule targets and manage scope changes.
- Develop test plans and support software product validation activities.
- Implement new designs or enhancements to existing MES applications.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues within existing automation or MES systems.
- Participate in design reviews, code inspections, and compliance activities.
- Ensure alignment with BD development policies, quality standards, and 21 CFR Part 11 regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
- BS degree
in Computer Science, Process Engineering, Continuous Improvement, or related engineering discipline. - Minimum 3 years of relevant experience
in software development or MES application engineering. - Experience developing software within a process-oriented or regulated environment.
- Ability to work independently with minimal daily oversight.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Knowledge of automation or process control systems.
- Experience working on Agile software teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Tulip application development experience
(highly desired). - Experience developing or configuring MES applications (Apriso, Tulip, or similar).
- Experience in FDA/ISO-regulated environments.
- Knowledge of C#, JavaScript, and SQL Server.
- Experience with Power BI.
- UX-focused software development experience.
- Basic IT infrastructure or hardware knowledge.
Additional Notes
- This role supports a manufacturing environment producing complex electromechanical devices (flow cytometers).
- Work includes developing MES applications to support routing, assembly, integration, and test processes across multiple subassembly operations.
- Tulip University training may be available for strong candidates with MES experience who are open to learning Tulip.
