Direct Support Professional

Job Overview
As a Direct Support Professional (DSP), you will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities. Your primary responsibility will be to provide compassionate care and support to clients in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and within the community. You will assist clients with daily living activities, promote independence, and ensure their safety and well-being.

Duties

• Assist clients with meal preparation.
• Provide patient care and support in accordance with individualized care plans.
• Monitor clients' vital signs and overall health status, reporting any changes to healthcare professionals.
• Engage clients in social activities and encourage participation to promote mental and emotional well-being.
• Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping tasks as needed.
• Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance the quality of life for clients.
• Document client progress and any incidents in accordance with HIPAA regulations.

Skills

• First aid and CPR certification preferred.
• Experience in group home settings or assisted living environments is highly desirable.
• Strong patient observation skills to identify changes in client behavior or health status.
• Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism, Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or other related conditions.
• Knowledge of caregiving techniques including heavy lifting and patient monitoring.
• Ability to prepare nutritious meals while considering dietary restrictions or preferences.
• Understanding of care plans and the ability to implement them effectively.
• Excellent communication skills to interact positively with clients, families, and team members.
