Position Overview
The Sonographer III provides high-quality patient care while performing diagnostic sonographic imaging and related procedures to demonstrate anatomy for interpretation and/or intervention. This role requires advanced technical skills, strong organizational abilities, and a commitment to compassionate care.
ResponsibilitiesEssential Functions
- Act as sonography section leader, representing ultrasonography to Imaging Services Manager for equipment, technical, and personnel considerations
- Work closely with radiologists to perform diagnostic sonographic exams
- Exercise professional judgment and maintain a demeanor complimentary to quality care
- Deliver appropriate care while recognizing patient conditions and ensuring successful completion of procedures
- Comply with all state and federal regulations applicable to each modality
- Assess patient's physical condition and age-specific needs
- Provide clear instructions to achieve patient cooperation and desired results
- Perform proper patient identification, acquire clinical history, and ensure accurate documentation
- Position patient and equipment to achieve high-quality images for interpretation
- Assess diagnostic images for technical quality, proper annotation, and patient identification
- Comply with Quality Control standards and participate in QC tasks
- Administer medical aid in emergency situations
- Assist in supervising student sonographers and training new team members
Education & Training
- Graduate of an accredited school of sonography
- Meets American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (ARDMS) eligibility guidelines
Licensure/Certification
- Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) through ARDMS
- Maintains current BLS/Healthcare Provider certification
- Maintains RDMS physics registry and three ARDMS registries
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of sonography experience
- Knowledge of routine ultrasound procedures, including invasive procedures such as:
- Biopsies
- Amniocentesis
- Thoracentesis
- Breast cyst aspiration
- Breast localization
- Familiarity with Doppler, 3D/4D, and pediatric sonography
