Job Summary

Lab Hours 7:30am-3:30pm -- Work days flexible during the week upon supervisor approval.
The Cardiac Sonographer is responsible for operating diagnostic ultrasound equipment and for scanning patients in all aspects of cardiac scanning including M-Mode, 2-D, color, Doppler, exercise testing, and TEE.
This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
This position reports to the Supervisor Cardiac Sonographer and operates within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures.
Essential Functions
-Must be able to effectively interact appropriately to an individual's intellectual level and physical ability with adolescent, adult and geriatric patients.
-Scan patients in all aspects of cardiac scanning including M-Mode, 2-D, color, Doppler, exercise testing and TEE.
-Participate in reviewing interpretation of daily scans with Cardiologist.
-Train others in the use of the Radiology Information System and Echo PACs.
-Assist in scheduling patients and assuring effective movement of same.
-Interview patients in order to obtain information pertinent to the examination being performed.
-Maintain accurate and current patient file system.
-Maintain close coordination between the Operation's Manager, Imaging Services, Team Leader, Ultrasound and Staff Cardiologist to ensure the adherence of policies and procedures and safety standards.
-Assist in quality control studies.
-Keep current with new positions, procedures, policies and techniques as established by the licensing board and the Hospital.
-Work flexible hours as department needs are assessed and be available for call as needed.
-Assist with student training as necessary.
-Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, compliance, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
-Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences or in-services, professional affiliations, or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise.
-Meet annual competency and retraining requirements.
-Attend meetings as required

Qualifications

Education
Associate's Degree Radiology required
Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree?

Licenses and Credentials
Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) required

IV certification is required if not certified, will provide training
Experience
Experience as an Ultrasound Technician 2-3 years preferred
