- Evaluate and qualify new suppliers specializing in sheet metal fabrication, precision castings, and forged components.
- Conduct supplier audits (process audits, system audits, capability assessments) to ensure compliance with ISO, AS9100, or industry standards.
- Develop supplier quality improvement plans and track performance using KPIs (PPM, on-time delivery, defect rate).
- Review engineering drawings, GD&T, material specifications, and tolerance requirements for manufacturability.
- Approve supplier First Article Inspections (FAI) per AS9102 requirements.
- Support PPAP, APQP, and control plan development for new components.
- Provide technical guidance for sheet metal processes—bending, forming, welding—and evaluate forging & casting processes such as die design, gating, risers, heat treatment, and finish machining.
- Investigate supplier-related non-conformances and drive root cause analysis using 8D, 5-Why, Fishbone, and other structured methodologies.
- Validate corrective actions and ensure sustainable process improvements at the supplier site.
- Maintain NCR database and ensure timely closure of quality actions.
- Monitor supplier process capability using SPC tools and recommend improvements.
- Drive defect reduction initiatives and Lean Six Sigma activities at supplier locations.
- Support cost-saving initiatives through scrap reduction, process optimization, and improved manufacturability.
- Review material certifications, special process certifications, and metallurgical reports for casting/forging components.
- Ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and industry requirements (e.g., DFARS, NADCAP for special processes).
- Maintain supplier documentation including inspection reports, audit findings, control plans, PFMEAs, and FAIs.
