Rockwell Sterling is seeking an experienced
Commercial Construction Superintendent
to lead field operations across complex, fast-paced Boston projects.
This role requires strong MEP coordination, tight schedule control, ownership of site safety, and the ability to drive subcontractor performance in active, occupied, and logistically challenging environments.
The ideal candidate has delivered urban tenant interiors ($2M-$40M), life science lab builds, or Class-A office construction, with direct experience managing phased turnovers, inspection sequences, logistics planning, and union or hybrid labour environments.
Core Responsibilities:
- Lead on-site execution for commercial construction projects, owning safety, schedule, logistics, and quality.
- Develop and drive 3-week lookahead schedules and daily coordination plans with trade partners.
- Manage MEP-heavy scopes including above-ceiling coordination, mission-critical tie-ins, testing/commissioning, and trade stacking.
- Coordinate Boston permitting, inspections, fire alarms, sprinkler sign-offs, elevator turnover, and AHJ approvals.
- Enforce site safety compliance, conduct daily huddles, JHA planning, subcontractor onboarding, and OSHA reporting.
- Own the project punch process, QC walks, turnover packages, and commissioning readiness.
- Maintain documentation: daily logs, change conditions, photos, manpower tracking, RFI awareness, material receipts.
- Drive accountability with subcontractors—protect schedule, elevate issues early, enforce contract scope.
- Partner with PM and APM to control manpower burn, subcontractor sequences, material lead times, and crane/delivery logistics.
- Manage loading dock windows, street closures, pedestrian paths, swing staging, and vertical transport plans.
- Represent the company in client OAC meetings, presenting schedule updates and risk mitigations.
What We're Looking For:
- 5+ years as Superintendent on commercial builds.
- Experience delivering interiors, life science TI, higher-ed, healthcare, or ground-up podium + core projects.
- Strong knowledge of MEP systems, fire protection, power distribution, HVAC balancing, and building envelope integration.
- Comfortable working in active/occupied buildings with phased turnover.
- Proven ability to sequence work in dense urban sites with limited laydown space.
- Proficient in Procore, Bluebeam, Microsoft Project (or equivalent scheduling tool).
- Ability to read and redline drawings, understand specs, and lead constructability conversations.
- OSHA-30 required (or ability to complete within 60 days).
