Compensation: $75,000 - $80,000/Yearly

Position Overview: The Assistant Controller supports the Controller and Finance Department in overseeing all accounting functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial operations. This role plays a key part in month-end close, financial reporting, payroll administration, and maintaining compliance with all required company licensing, taxes and bonding.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Management & Reporting:

  • Coordinates the implementation of financial and internal control procedures.
  • Monitors and reviews financial and related system information for accuracy and completeness.
  • Provide analytical support and special project assistance to the Controller.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of process improvements to strengthen efficiency and accuracy.
  • Produce various accounting and economic reports for external reporting.

Payroll Administration:

  • Oversee weekly payroll to ensure accuracy and timely submission.
  • Audit payroll reports for discrepancies and resolve issues directly with Controller, HR and/or department leaders.
  • Maintain payroll records, deductions, wage adjustments, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Maintain confidentiality and data security standards for all payroll-related information.

  • Ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable laws, regulations and company policies while processing payroll.

  • Collaborate with HR, finance and other departments to gather and validate payroll information, such as new hires, terminations, promotions and salary changes.

Licensing, Taxes, Bonding & Compliance:

  • Maintain and monitor all required company, contractor, and employee licensing, as well as company bonding.
  • Ensure timely renewals and filings with relevant regulatory agencies.
  • Track upcoming expiration dates and coordinate with internal departments to ensure continuity of compliance.
  • Foresee potential risks and develop control strategies for both procurement and licensing.
  • Assist with audits and regulatory reporting as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with licensing agreements and intellectual property rights
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and government regulations for all purchasing activities.
  • Review, assist with maintaining and ensure timely and accurate sales tax reporting and payments for all sales and use tax jurisdictions.
  • Ensure compliance by assisting with any research of current or new tax jurisdictions; also help train operational team members to process correctly in the ERP.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in accounting or finance; experience in payroll administration strongly preferred.
  • Experience with accounting and payroll software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite, UKG, ADP, etc.).
  • Must have good working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Must be detail-oriented, capable of multitasking, prioritizing, and able to manage tight, time-sensitive deadlines.

  • Ability to thoroughly check work for accuracy and correct any errors.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Must have reliable transportation.
