Compensation: $75,000 - $80,000/Yearly
Position Overview: The Assistant Controller supports the Controller and Finance Department in overseeing all accounting functions, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and efficiency in financial operations. This role plays a key part in month-end close, financial reporting, payroll administration, and maintaining compliance with all required company licensing, taxes and bonding.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management & Reporting:
- Coordinates the implementation of financial and internal control procedures.
- Monitors and reviews financial and related system information for accuracy and completeness.
- Provide analytical support and special project assistance to the Controller.
- Assists with the development and implementation of process improvements to strengthen efficiency and accuracy.
- Produce various accounting and economic reports for external reporting.
Payroll Administration:
- Oversee weekly payroll to ensure accuracy and timely submission.
- Audit payroll reports for discrepancies and resolve issues directly with Controller, HR and/or department leaders.
- Maintain payroll records, deductions, wage adjustments, and compliance with state and federal regulations.
Maintain confidentiality and data security standards for all payroll-related information.
Ensure accuracy and compliance with applicable laws, regulations and company policies while processing payroll.
Collaborate with HR, finance and other departments to gather and validate payroll information, such as new hires, terminations, promotions and salary changes.
Licensing, Taxes, Bonding & Compliance:
- Maintain and monitor all required company, contractor, and employee licensing, as well as company bonding.
- Ensure timely renewals and filings with relevant regulatory agencies.
- Track upcoming expiration dates and coordinate with internal departments to ensure continuity of compliance.
- Foresee potential risks and develop control strategies for both procurement and licensing.
- Assist with audits and regulatory reporting as needed.
- Ensure compliance with licensing agreements and intellectual property rights
- Ensure compliance with company policies and government regulations for all purchasing activities.
- Review, assist with maintaining and ensure timely and accurate sales tax reporting and payments for all sales and use tax jurisdictions.
- Ensure compliance by assisting with any research of current or new tax jurisdictions; also help train operational team members to process correctly in the ERP.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
- 3+ years of experience in accounting or finance; experience in payroll administration strongly preferred.
- Experience with accounting and payroll software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite, UKG, ADP, etc.).
- Must have good working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook.
Must be detail-oriented, capable of multitasking, prioritizing, and able to manage tight, time-sensitive deadlines.
Ability to thoroughly check work for accuracy and correct any errors.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
- Must have reliable transportation.
