Major Responsibilities: Responsible for the maintenance of an effecient and effective surgery schedule 1)Assumes responsibility for the surgery schedule, arranges schedule with surgeons offices for maximum efficiency. 2)Maintains and coordinates effective correction plans to resolve issues with a focus on schedule efficiency and accuracy and physician satisfaction 3)Coordinates the surgery schedule to accommodate both OR and GI Lab. 4)Coordinates with scheduling staff for maximum OR utilization 5)Collaborates with Anesthesia to assure coverage of cases 6)Obtain staffing capacity from OR management and set final schedule to reflect appropriate number of rooms. 7)Provide on the job training and coaching for the surgery scheduling staff 8)Coordinates the use of all information systems to ensure that data entry is accurate 9)Coordinates case assignment for all surgical assistants. Surgery Scheduler Responsibilities 1)Responsible for optimal utilization of the surgical schedule, initiating change as necessary 2)Seeks assistance from OR Leadership and Anesthesia concerning unplanned requests for additional coverage 3)Obtains pertinent patient information through appropriate channels necessary for case preparation and appropriate scheduling 4)Maintains effective rapport and communication with all surgeons regarding case order and time, cancellations and substitutions, via phone or personal communication Process Improvement 1)Collaborates with leadership team to provide input on opportunities for improvement 2)Assist in the development and implementation of strategies for improvement 3)Active participant on block time utilization Education/Experience Required: High School Education or equivalent. At least 5 years experience in hospital scheduling setting or similar-like position. Medical Terminology Preferred Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required: Proficient Keyboard Skills P. C. computer experience. CPR recommended Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Excellent interpersonal skills. Must relate well with surgeons, office personnel, nursing personnel and other departments. Analytical and problem solving skills required to resolve scheduling conflicts. Ability to sit for long periods of time. Ability to meet deadlines. Ability to function in a fast paced environment with established time constraints. Ability to utilize a computer for data entry, reports, spreadsheets. Ability to be flexible in hours to meet the needs of the unit. If position has direct patient care or direct patient contact the following lifting requirement supersedes any previous lifting requirement effective 06/01/2015. Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available. Unique patient lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. This job description indicates the general nature and level of work expected of the incumbent. Proactively plan and coordinate the Operating Room schedule in the most efficient and cost effective manner. Provide on the job coaching and support for Surgery Scheduling associates. Serve as the first point of contact for physicians and OR management with respect to scheduling issues.
