Production Engineer
A large, advanced manufacturing organization is seeking
multiple Production Engineers
to support major automation initiatives, capital equipment projects, and long-term capacity planning. This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with significant visibility, modern facilities, and excellent benefits upon conversion.
About the Opportunity
This engineering group focuses on
future-state planning
,
automation integration
, and
large-scale process improvements
. Engineers collaborate with outside integrators, internal engineering teams, and production associates to design, evaluate, and implement new technology and equipment.
The role is approximately
80% planning/project leadership
and
20% hands-on
.
What You'll Do
Process & Production Improvement
- Improve safety, quality, productivity, and overall material flow
- Reduce equipment downtime and support environmental impact reduction
- Develop and optimize welding processes and fixtures
- Support automation introduction and next-generation manufacturing technology
- Build project schedules, cost justifications, and KPI-driven progress tracking
Capital Projects & Automation
- Conduct time studies, process mapping, and workflow evaluations
- Prepare detailed project packets for new equipment and automation proposals
- Collaborate with external integrators on design, testing, and debugging
- Support commissioning and installation of new equipment during plant shutdowns
- Participate in equipment validation, retesting, and process tuning
Welding-Focused Responsibilities
- Create conceptual designs for fixtures and tooling
- Analyze drawings, inspection data, and part relationships to resolve quality issues
- Optimize welding systems (robotic welding experience a plus, not required)
- Serve as technical expert for your assigned welding/process area
Team & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with production, maintenance, engineering teams, and vendors
- Participate in kaizen events and hands-on process improvements where needed
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in
Mechanical, Industrial, Electrical Engineering
, or Engineering Technology - Internship or co-op required for new grads
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings and measurement data
- Understanding of welding, machining, cutting, and general manufacturing processes
- Strong problem-solving, troubleshooting, and organizational skills
Preferred
- 2–5 years manufacturing or production engineering experience
- Exposure to automation, robotics, or capital project work
- Familiarity with welding equipment, fixtures, or robotic systems
- Experience with budgeting, scheduling, and KPI-driven project management
