POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings, ensuring that the Company knows everything required to successfully bid new construction and repair projects. Analyzes blueprints, specifications, proposals, regulatory regulations, prepare material take-offs and essential documentation to prepare project estimates. Attend required onboard ship checks to prepare man hour and material estimates for projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: Because Eastern Shipbuilding is continually growing to meet the needs of our customers, the essential duties and responsibilities may be different than described.

• Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Review written and computer-based data to determine material and

labor man hours requirements and prepares itemized lists or spreadsheets.
- Compute cost factors and prepare estimates used for management purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work, preparing bids, and determining cost effectiveness.
- Consult and communicate with the senior management, the estimating manager, department employees, company supervisors, suppliers, vendors, sub-contractors or other individuals to discuss and formulate material take-offs or estimates and resolve issues.
- Minimal travel along with overnight arrangements is required.
- Work with minimal supervision.
- Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be required.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

REQUIREMENTS

Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college, institute or maritime academy, plus three to 5 years shipbuilding field experience in quantity take off and estimating desired. An equivalent combination of education and shipbuilding and estimating experience may be considered.

Skills: Advanced Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, Project, AutoCAD and Outlook or Outlook Express. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from senior management and employees. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form. The ability to analyze and interpret regulations, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. The ability to work with mathematical concepts such as algebra and geometry. The ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, fax machines, and smartphones. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
