US Payroll Contractor

Soni's client is seeking a detail-oriented
Payroll Contractor
to support bi-weekly payroll processing for U.S. exempt and non-exempt employees. This role focuses on ensuring accurate employee data, resolving payroll inquiries, managing audits, and maintaining compliance with multistate regulations and SOX standards. The ideal candidate is organized, adaptable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with evolving systems.

Responsibilities:

• Process bi-weekly payroll, including wages, bonuses, equity, and off-cycle payments.
• Review and update employee data changes (hires, terms, LOA, pay adjustments, job updates).
• Manage and resolve daily payroll inbox inquiries, escalating complex issues as needed.
• Partner with HR, Benefits, Compensation, and Legal to ensure accurate data flow and payroll execution.
• Complete payroll workflows, audits, reconciliations, and related reporting accurately and on schedule.
• Generate and analyze payroll reports related to taxes, deductions, withholdings, and payroll balances.
• Ensure compliance with multistate tax rules, SOX requirements, and annual W-2 support activities.

Qualifications:

• 2–4 years of payroll experience.
• Strong understanding of payroll practices, processes, and compliance.
• Ability to manage confidential information with accuracy and discretion.
• Strong Excel and Microsoft Office skills.
• Experience handling multistate payroll.

Preferred Skills:

• Paylocity experience (HIGHLY preferred).
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
• Comfortable navigating multiple, disconnected systems and adapting to process changes.
• Strong customer service orientation and strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and exercise judgment on moderately complex issues.

Compensation:
$25 - $35/ Hour

Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications
