The Resonetics LightSpeed Lab is a network of specialized teams with deep technical expertise and advanced technologies that support MedTech customers through quick-turn prototyping and development of complex sub-assemblies. Each LightSpeed Lab is focused on delivering speed, precision, and scalability, enabling customers to accelerate product development and transition seamlessly into high-volume production. The San Diego LightSpeed Lab is seeking ambitious, hands-on candidates to join our growing team of engineers and technical specialists (~15 Lightspeed team members; ~100 Resonetics employees on-site). As a co-op student, you'll be embedded in a fast-paced, team-based environment where you'll support engineering staff in developing and optimizing processes that scale from prototype to high-volume production.

Responsibilities
  • Support in the development of Nitinol-based components, including laser cutting, welding, and thermal processing
  • SolidWorks-based modeling for custom fixturing and assembly tooling
  • Design and fabrication of custom test fixtures and tooling for Nitinol shape setting
  • Execution of laser welding, shape setting, and electropolishing protocols under engineer supervision
  • Process documentation and support of early-stage DFM (Design for Manufacturability) efforts
  • Hands-on prototyping and micro-assembly work
Required Qualifications
  • Current student pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field
  • Strong creative problem-solving and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Comfort with hands-on prototyping and working with delicate micro-scale components
  • Comfortable working both independently and in small teams
  • Solid understanding of CAD modeling and drawing development (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Ability to read and interpret basic engineering drawings and technical documentation (GD&T familiarity a plus)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Interest or experience in Nitinol processing, thermal forming, or laser manufacturing
  • Exposure to motion control systems or basic automation
Compensation
  • The compensation for this role is competitive and will be based on experience and qualifications. The anticipated range is $23.00–$28.00/hr.
