POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Senior Payroll Specialist is responsible for managing all aspects of payroll processing for the company's workforce, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely execution. This role requires advanced payroll expertise, including multi-state processing, garnishments, and tax compliance.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • 10+ years of payroll experience, including 5+ years of multi-state payroll administration

Preferred:

  • 10-15+ years of payroll experience
  • 7-10+ years of experience with multi-state taxation

Skills:

  • Possesses in-depth knowledge of payroll tax laws, deductions, garnishments, and all relevant compliance requirements.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality and exercises sound judgment when handling sensitive employee information.
  • Demonstrates exceptional organizational, analytical, and time management abilities to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Exhibits advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll software systems, with a strong aptitude for data accuracy and reporting.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively across all levels of the organization, translating complex information into easy-to-understand language.
  • Displays creativity, diplomacy, and composure when resolving challenges or addressing sensitive issues.
  • Collaborates successfully with cross-functional teams, fostering trust and productive working relationships.
  • Shows meticulous attention to detail and accuracy in all payroll and reporting tasks.
  • Acts with the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Prioritizes competing deadlines and adapts efficiently to changing business needs.
  • Operates as a proactive self-starter who is dependable and requires minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills, including documentation and process improvement capabilities.
  • Applies accounting principles and critical thinking to analyze, research, and resolve payroll discrepancies.
  • Performs effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment while maintaining focus, precision, and professionalism.

OFFICE AND TRAVEL

  • Hybrid office attendance.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS

Responsibilities:

  • Handle the administration of the electronic timekeeping system.
  • Verify employees are properly set up in payroll systems.
  • Process employee changes and updates in the payroll system.
  • Prepare and process weekly payroll for 500+ employees.
  • Administer and manage garnishments, tax levies, child support orders, and other payroll deductions.
  • Backup other payroll team members as needed.
  • Respond to and resolve employee payroll inquiries in a timely, professional manner.
  • Support training needs for supervisors on the use of the timekeeping system.
  • Develop and maintain positive professional relationships with employees and project teams.
  • View every interaction as an opportunity to add value and strengthen relationships.

Other Duties as assigned:

  • Actively contribute as a member of the HR & Payroll Teams by collaborating on shared goals, aligning efforts across departments, and supporting team priorities.
  • Build and maintain strong, professional relationships with internal colleagues
  • Attend and engage in internal and cross-functional company meetings.
  • Participate in relevant training opportunities for personal and professional growth, including leadership development and human resources topics.
  • Support and participate in company-sponsored events and initiatives that promote team engagement and culture.
  • Perform duties of other Payroll team members and others on the HR Operations team, as needed, to support the completed payroll process across the organization.
  • Follow and reinforce standards of work, ensuring consistency and accountability.
  • Participate in Lean events and actively support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with the McGough Way.
  • Emphasize relationship-building as a core part of the role, both internally and externally.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Position involves sitting for extended periods of time at employee's work station and during meetings as well as while traveling, either by plane or car. Employee needs to be able to lift up to 20 pounds as frequently as needed to move objects; dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse; ability to hear and speak clearly; and ability to distinguish between colors on graphs and charts.

Occasionally, employee will be required to visit construction jobsites which may expose the employee to dirt, dust, uneven surfaces, outdoor weather conditions and extreme temperatures.

In alignment with our commitment to pay transparency, the base salary range for this position is $ /hr, excluding fringe benefits or potential bonuses. If you join McGough, your final base salary will be determined by several factors, including geography, location, skills, education, and experience. Furthermore, we place significant value on pay equity among our current team members as part of any final job offer.

Please note that the range provided above reflects the hiring range for this role. Hiring near the top end of this range would be atypical, as we aim to allow room for future salary growth.
