Environmental Services Technician

Summary/Objective

Under general supervision of the EVS Manager & EVS Supervisor and Team Leader performs a variety of activities to keep the facility clean, sanitary, and maintained. All EVS personnel and responsibilities are part of the Operations Group under the Facilities Director.

Essential Functions

• Responsible for executing work under the direction of the EVS Manager, EVS Supervisor, Facilities Director and the requests of the nursing staff, in emergency situations.
• Responsible for the appearance and cleaning of hospital and hospital grounds.
• Constant alertness to needed repairs.
• Abide by the maintenance and cleaning procedures.
• Subject to emergency call, on off-duty hours.
• Handles appliances, equipment, and cleaning chemicals in a safe manner.
• Responsible for the organization of equipment and supplies.
• Responsible for the proper use, care and maintenance of all equipment and tools used in performing maintenance duties.
• Perform all other duties related to this position.
• Assist other departments when necessary.
• Follow all hospital policies.
• Other related duties as assigned.
• Environmental Services personnel are responsible for performing routine repetitive daily tasks, despite frequent interruptions.
• Responsible for keeping all containers labeled.
• Helps in the thorough cleaning of patient rooms, after patient discharge

Ability to:

• read and write the English Language and follow written and oral instruction and fill out work request;
• recognize hazardous areas and take proper precautions;
• understand the hazardous communication program be familiar with all Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) and abide by the procedures;
• understand the Infection Control Policies and Procedures and Safety Policies and procedures;
• be flexible and able to work in an environment that has frequent and multiple interruptions, which is stressful at times;
• follow department policy and procedures.

Supervisory Responsibility

This role has no supervisory roles.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This position regularly requires long hours and frequent weekend work.

No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED diploma.
