Project Accountant
to support the financial and operational management of our project-based business. This role plays a critical part in connecting finance with operations — overseeing
budget tracking, resource allocation, and efficiency reporting
across multiple concurrent projects.

The ideal candidate is analytical and process-driven, with a talent for transforming data into actionable insights that improve productivity and profitability. This person will collaborate closely with project leads, operations, and finance to ensure every project runs on time, on budget, and with optimal resource utilization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain
    detailed project budgets
, forecasts, and job cost reports to ensure financial accuracy and accountability.
  • Track and analyze
    team hours
, labor allocation, and utilization to measure performance and identify opportunities for greater efficiency.
  • Collaborate with operations and project managers to align budgets, timelines, and staffing plans with project goals.
  • Monitor and report on
    resource allocation
across active projects, highlighting potential gaps, overages, or inefficiencies.
  • Prepare
    efficiency and productivity reports
to evaluate project performance and inform operational decision-making.
  • Reconcile project-related expenses, purchase orders, and vendor invoices to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Support leadership with
    budget variance analyses
, financial summaries, and actionable insights.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities related to project accounting.
  • Maintain organized and transparent financial documentation for all active projects.
  • Partner with the CFO and Director of Operations to continuously refine tracking systems and improve cross-departmental reporting.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3–5 years of accounting or project finance experience within a
    project-based, creative, or production-oriented environment
(e.g., architecture, interior design, staging, or similar).
  • Strong understanding of
    job costing
    ,
    budget management
    , and
    time/resource tracking systems
    .
  • Proficiency with accounting or project management tools (e.g.,
    QuickBooks
    ,
    Studio Designer
    , or comparable platforms).
  • Advanced Excel and data analysis skills, with the ability to generate clear and meaningful reports.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with QuickBooks Online, Studio Designer, or ERP systems used in project-based industries.
  • Familiarity with
    resource utilization reporting
    and
    performance metrics
    for multi-phase projects.
  • Understanding of purchasing workflows and expense management processes.
  • Ability to translate financial data into clear, actionable insights for operations and leadership.
  • New York, New York, United States
