Position Summary & Responsibilities

Position Summary:

This position screens incoming mail, which is essential to the safety of the facility. The goal of this position is to ensure that mailroom procedures and processes are addressed in a timely fashion

Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Sorts incoming resident and staff mail, which includes first class mail, electronic mail, videos, pictures, newspapers, and magazines following prescribed policy and procedures.
  • Pick up mail and delivers mail to the DOC Central Office, and Central Mail.
  • Researches and responds to resident communication forms. Answers complaints after investigation and provides written response to the Supervisor.
  • Inspects incoming residents' newspapers, and magazines, reviewing the contents for contraband items to ensure that contraband is not introduced into the facility.
  • Records contraband items appropriately, notifying EAI for disposition if needed
  • Must be capable of performing Essential physical Functions (provided upon request)

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Six months of experience in general office, clerical or administrative support work. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency.

Licenses and Certifications:

Valid Driver's License

Pre-employment & Post-Offer Requirements:

Must have a Valid High School Diploma or Equivalent. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position. Must take and pass drug screen, background check, and Tuberculosis (TB) test; TB Testing is provided by the facility at no cost to the employee. Must be a current United States Citizen. Must be free of misdemeanor convictions involving domestic battery as an adult unless the conviction was for a battery committed prior to July 1, 1997, and has been expunged. Must be free of felony convictions.
