Plans and implements the annual giving program under the direction of the Development Director. Leads efforts in volunteer recruitment and retention.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implements and evaluates the annual volunteer recruitment and retention strategy to meet the ongoing needs of Harbor House.
- Recruits, screens, trains, and places volunteers for direct and non-direct service roles, including job shadowing and onboarding. Direct service roles include client-related activities like volunteering in the shelters, answering hotlines, supporting group activities, and more. Non-direct service roles include community and fundraising events.
- Maintains accurate records and provides timely reports on volunteer participation and activities.
- Oversees 40-Hour Domestic Violence Training for volunteers, including but not limited to marketing the training, scheduling the sessions, coordinating trainers for each training session, planning and coordinating the menus, and updating of the curriculum, as needed. Ensures training program meets Illinois Domestic Violence Act and Illinois Certified Domestic Violence Professionals, Inc. requirements.
- Oversees volunteer recognition activities.
- Develops ongoing training opportunities for volunteers.
- Informs volunteers of policies, procedures, and standards of volunteer service. Confers with volunteers to resolve grievances and promote cooperation and interest.
- Provides attentive customer service and responsiveness to all in-kind and potential donors/donor groups. Responds to inquiries, phone calls, and email in a timely and responsive manner. Ensures Harbor House is presented professionally.
- Leads annual giving efforts under the supervision of the Development Director such as through an annual strategy, intentional communications, events, and more.
- Coordinates annual giving fundraising events like Laugh for a Cause and others through event planning, securing sponsorships and donations, assisting with volunteers, and more.
- Strategizes and executes mass communications to donors, including cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship communications with social media, email, and mailing.
- Oversees coordination of in-kind donation drives and community drives.
- Assists with grant writing and reporting, specifically overseeing most grants under $50,000 and assisting with federal and state grants, as requested.
- Provides support to Capital Campaign efforts, as requested, including but not limited to assisting with mailings, scheduling appointments, collating data, and other activities.
- Performs job responsibilities to maintain an atmosphere of cohesiveness.
- Provides crisis intervention to survivors as necessary through the hotline and chatline; coordinates continued intervention with Harbor House staff.
- Travels throughout Kankakee and Iroquois Counties may be required. Mileage is reimbursed.
- Possesses excellent communication, organizational, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
- Must be organized and able to prioritize work to meet deadlines. Excellent written and oral communication skills and data entry skills are required.
- Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential information with professionalism, maintaining strict confidentiality.
- Must work well independently and be able to execute tasks with minimal supervision.
- Commits to Harbor House's mission and understands how all positions intersect with supporting survivors and the community.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university in relevant degree plus 2 years of fundraising experience.

REQUIREMENTS
Unless exempted by the Americans with Disabilities Act, all persons hired for this position are required to perform the following essential functions:
- Lift up to 50 lbs. on an as-needed basis;
- Perform the basic life operational functions of talking, hearing, vision on a frequent basis;
- Perform repetitive motions (i.e. computer keying and/or dialing phone) on a frequent basis;
- Stand, walk, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, and crouch on an occasional basis; and
- Sit for long periods of time.
This position requires exposure to the following environmental factors:
- Normal office conditions;
- Exposure to variable noise levels;
- Environment may include possible exposure to communicable illnesses; and
- Traveling in an automobile in various weather conditions.
