New Skete Management, LLC oversees the operations of a Christian Monastic Community in Cambridge, NY. The Monks of New Skete are renowned for their breeding of German Shepherds and training of all dog breeds. New Skete offers a relaxed and friendly work environment that is truly unique.
Currently, the Monks of New Skete are seeking a Kennel Operations Manager / Trainer . In this full-time, exempt role, you will:
- Oversee daily operations by working side-by-side with staff to ensure the smooth functioning of the Training Kennel, and by maintaining regular communication with the Prior regarding operational needs, schedules, challenges, and recommendations.
- Provide day-to-day guidance, coaching, and practical support to Dog Trainers, Kennel Attendants, and monastic trainers, while actively participating in daily tasks as needed.
- Train assigned dogs using the established New Skete methods. Track progress, communicate updates to the team, and collaborate with the Senior Dog Trainer.
- Prepare owners for their dog's transition home by assisting with final demonstrations, hands-on coaching, and clear documentation to ensure training methods are continued at home.
- Closely monitor the daily health, behavior, and overall well-being of all dogs in the program.
- Participate in and oversee daily kennel facility and maintenance duties, ensuring all spaces meet New Skete's standards for cleanliness, safety, and organization.
- Coordinate schedules among Marketing & Communications and trainers to support dog arrivals, departures, daily routines, and training sessions.
- Monitor and replenish supplies, equipment, and tools essential for training, dog care, and facility operation.
- Other duties as assigned.
To be considered for the role, you will have a high school diploma and professional experience in dog training, together with demonstrated supervisory experience. Experience in veterinary assistance is also highly desirable. You should also have exceptional customer service skills and comfort dealing with pet owners. You must also be able to read and follow instructions in English, and document training techniques and responses. You will need reliable transportation and be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, including lifting up to 50 lbs. regularly, standing and moving for the majority of the day, and working both indoors and outdoors in various conditions.
This position has a schedule of 8 hrs/day, five days a week, including most Saturdays.
