*Job Summary*
We are a dynamic and collaborative privately-owned hospital that has been providing small animal care for the residents of Northern New Jersey and the New York Hudson Valley. We are a full-service AAHA accredited hospital and VetCOT certified level II trauma center with 60+ veterinarians including board-certified specialists in emergency and critical care (3), surgery (2), internal medicine (5), cardiology (1), neurology (3), oncology (2), exotics (1), and nutrition (1). Our emergency and critical care service includes 18 staff doctors and 4 residents. Our general interns also rotate through the emergency service and assist with overnight care. Our 24-hour facility has a very busy emergency service that provides a dynamic, interesting, and challenging caseload. Oure 1200-square-food Critical Care Unit is a highly equipped, state-of-the-art facility that includes multiple oxygen cages, high-flow oxygen capabilities, a Puritan Bennet 840 Ventilator, multi-parameter monitors for continuous case side monitoring, an in-house laboratory as well as multiple point-of-care testing capabilities, and a Mindray Central Station for continuous ECG monitoring via telemetry. In addition, our hospital’s diagnostic imaging capabilities include digital radiography, ultrasonography, MRI, CT, fluoroscopy, endoscopy, and bronchoscopy.
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Emergency Veterinarian to provide urgent and critical care for a diverse range of animal patients. The ideal candidate will possess strong veterinary medical skills, exceptional animal handling abilities, and a compassionate approach to pet care. This role involves working in a fast-paced environment where quick decision-making and teamwork are essential to saving lives and improving animal health outcomes.
*Duties*
* Provide medical care for dogs and cats presenting through our emergency service. Experience with exotic animal species is preferred but not an absolute requirement.
* Teach and oversee interns and residents.
* Communicate effectively with pet owners regarding treatment plans and prognosis.
* Communicate with our referring veterinarians.
* Emergency doctors are not expected to perform emergency surgeries – we have board-certified surgeons on call.
*Skills*
* Excellent physical examination and animal restraint skills
* Proficiency in interpreting laboratory diagnostic test results and radiographic studies
* Expertise in performing common emergency procedures, including drawing blood, performing focused ultrasound examinations, thoracocentesis, pericardiocentesis, abdominocentesis, urinary catheterization, repair or minor lacerations, intubation, and CPR
* Excellent communication skills for interacting with pet owners and team members under stressful situations
* Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work effectively in high-pressure environments
* Ability to keep detailed records as well as basic computer skills - our medical records, treatment sheets, and anesthesia monitoring sheets are computerized

Pay: $150,000.00 - $200,000.00 per year
