Summary
The Assistant Manager, Rail Operations manages the planning, supervision, and coordination of the Rail department as they receive, load and set out autorack railcars.

This includes management of the Locomotive Engineers, the Switching team, and the Loading team.

Provides management, leadership, guidance, necessary training, and equipment to staff, and assists the Manager,

Rail Operations in directing and monitoring all activities of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Primary
  • Manage the safety policies and practices throughout the Rail operation.
  • Develop, implement, and manage a training program that complies with American Association of Railroads, (AAR), and Federal Railroad Administration, (FRA), regulations and guidelines.
  • Implement, communicate and manage rail policies and procedures to ensure the work is conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with all local,state and federal regulations.
  • Ensure the daily switching and loading plan is clearly communicated to the team. Monitor progress in real time, and make corrections and adjustments as needed.
  • Manage the training and orientation of all employees and ensure that every employee has the necessary knowledge, skills and ability to perform each task assigned.

  • Manage all Rail staff, including delegating and prioritizing job duties, recruiting, scheduling work assignments, and resolving any problems that may arise.
  • Communicate effectively and promptly with Glovis Vehicle Logistics, CSX and suppliers, as required.
  • Manage key performance indicators and make necessary improvements to ensure objectives are met.
  • Develop and manage an audit process to measure and improve the Rail department. Ensure the department is in compliance with ISO 9001 requirements.
  • Ensure all required AAR publications are on hand and current.
  • Ensure all required reports are completed accurately and on time.
  • Manage the processes for maintaining tools and equipment to ensure they are readily available and in good working order.
  • Prepare and maintain required internal and external reports.
  • Work with other Glovis departments, suppliers and customers to ensure Company needs are met.
  • Develop and manage a 5-S process for all areas of the Rail department.

Skills

Education & Experience

  • HS Diploma/G.E.D. required (6-9 years of direct experience)
  • Associate's degree Preferred (7-11 Direct Years of Experience)

This position works in a plant manufacturing/warehouse setting.
