Salary Scale:
CMA/LPN: $ $31.21

RN: $ $37.80

POSITION SUMMARY:
Assists in the delivery of primary health care services and patient care management in our physician clinics under direction of the physician/provider.

All employees will be held to the highest standard of confidentiality, and will be required to annually sign an employee confidentiality agreement that outlines the rules and expectation for every BCH employee. Failure to abide by these guidelines could lead to disciplinary action including termination.

Security Access: High Incumbent has access to restricted or confidential patient information and must comply with the terms of the BCH privacy security policies as it applies to their job.

BEHAVIORAL REQUIREMENTS:
Boone County Hospital has developed standards for behavior expectations of all employees. Please refer to the Boone County Hospital Standards of Behavior.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (this may not include all of the duties assigned)

  • Coordinates ordering of clinical supplies.
  • Coordinates ordering of medications and vaccines.
  • Assists Director with annual inventory.
  • Assists with coordination of monthly outdates of medication and vaccines.
  • Participates and manages the VFC Program and Survey as needed with assistance from Clinic Director.
  • Performs general nursing care to patients. Administers prescribed medications and treatments in accordance with nursing standards.
  • Develop staff schedules, review of staffing needs and the supervision and training of staff in good patient relations and office policies and procedures as directed by the Clinic Director.
  • Be aware of what is happening in clinic/department and the organization by attending clinic/department meetings, reading emails and regularly checking information on the organization's intranet site.
  • Establish effective mechanisms of communication with clinic staff, providers, patients and clinic manager to foster an environment of openness, trust, teamwork and staff development.
  • Greets patients prepares them for examination, procedures and treatments.
  • Aids physician during treatment, examination, and testing of patients.
  • Removes sutures, clean wounds and apply dressings as directed by physician.
  • Observes, records, and reports patient's conditions and reaction to drugs and treatments to physicians.
  • Responsible for obtaining and documenting medical histories, current medication lists, immunizations and vital signs in the medical record.
  • Preparation and administration of injections as ordered by physician.
  • Collection and preparation of specimens
  • Performs diagnostic tests as ordered by provider (example: EKG, PFT) and for which training has been given
  • Follows physician approved protocols for telephone screening.
  • Responds to and refers incoming telephone calls. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  • Maintains physician schedule including outpatient procedures, clinic times, vacations and meetings.
  • Keeps exam and treatment rooms clean and properly stocked with supplies.
  • Attends departmental meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  • Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Strong interpersonal skills, strong computer skills. Previous clinical experience in a medical office preferred.
  • Graduate from an accredited program for RN, LPN or CMA.
  • Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice to give and evaluate care.
  • Current license to practice in the state of Iowa
  • BLS and Mandatory Reporting certification

Operate office equipment such as computers, printers, copy machine, calculator, facsimile, and scanners.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work is performed with frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment.

Vision must be correctable to view computer screens and read printed information. Hearing must be in the normal range for telephone contacts, other conversations and Blood Pressure measurement.
