PURPOSE

Supports operational needs by assisting in various centralized departments; Centralized HIM, Scanning, and Referrals. Works independently to carry out tasks and communicates between various management teams to assist with daily responsibilities and areas of need. Carries out all duties while respecting member and provider confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization supported.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintains medical record indexing standards by memorizing and identifying various documents used throughout entire organization and how they correlate to EMR functionality.
  • Responsible for meeting department expectations based on assigned department and duties.
  • Assists with various workflows for medical records pending to scan to patient charts.
  • Responsible for identifying incoming faxes needed for immediate patient care needs and routing to appropriate work queues.
  • Maintains basic understanding of insurance authorization and referral requirements.
  • Assists with faxing medical records and processed referral authorizations to external specialist offices.
  • Assists with department internal and external mail.
  • Assists with various work queues, including referrals, outbound faxes, and pending medical records.
  • Communicates effectively between various management team members and provides follow up as needed.
  • Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Uses multiple computerized systems according to department expectations and standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

Required: High school diploma or GED. Six (6) or more months in healthcare experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to learn and retain information to effectively work in multiple departments simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform job functions, troubleshoot problems and make decisions without direct supervision.
  • Must be flexible in daily assignments and able to cross-cover within an assigned work group.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction and communicate with co-workers to perform duties as part of a work group.
  • Ability to assist in the maintenance of office equipment.
  • Must display a high level of accuracy, critical thinking and organization.
  • Strong computer and keyboarding skills, including familiarity with Windows.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal & problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to handle competing priorities.
