Summary:
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) provides basic nursing care to patients and residents under the supervision of a licensed nurse. Responsibilities include assisting with activities of daily living (ADLs), monitoring vital signs, and promoting a safe, clean, and supportive environment for resident.
Qualification Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
- Completion of CNA I training program and valid Nurse Aide I registry listing.
- Current CPR certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire).
Minimum Qualifications
- One year of relevant experience working in long-term care or assisted living, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
- Knowledge of basic patient care procedures and medical terminology.
- Understanding of infection control practices and hygiene protocols.
- Assisting with patient mobility, transfers, and use of adaptive equipment.
- Taking and recording vital signs and documenting care accurately.
- Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies or stressful situations.
- Communicate clearly with patients, families, and the care team.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Follow written and verbal instructions and adapt to changing priorities.
- Demonstrated compassion, patience, and attentiveness to patient needs.

Essential Functions
- Assist patients with ADLs including bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, and feeding.
- Measure and record vital signs (temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure).
- Observe residents' physical and mental conditions and report changes to nursing staff.
- Assist with mobility: repositioning, turning, transferring, and ambulation.
- Maintain clean and sanitary conditions of resident rooms and equipment.
- Provide emotional support and companionship to residents.
- Document care provided in electronic health records accurately and timely.
- Adhere to infection control protocols, including proper use of PPE.
Physical Demands
- Always required to stand, walk, and assist patients.
- Frequently required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Frequently required to bend, reach, push, and pull.
- Occasionally required to lift or assist in lifting individuals over 100 pounds with team or equipment assistance.
- Occasionally required to kneel or crouch.
- Visual acuity to observe patient condition and read charts.

Work Environment
- Always works indoors in resident-living area.
- Frequently exposed to bodily fluids and communicable diseases; PPE provided.
- Frequently works near patients experiencing physical or emotional distress.
- Occasionally exposed to strong odors, cleaning chemicals, and medical waste.
- Occasionally works in noisy environments due to equipment and alarms.
- Rarely works outdoors or in non-clinical areas.
- Never operates motor vehicles or heavy machinery as part of job responsibilities.
