ABOUT US:

The Western Maryland Resource Conservation and Development Council (WMRC&D) Inc. is a non-profit organization, based in Hagerstown, Maryland and in-business since 1993, whose mission is to build and sustain resource conservation programs which raise the quality of social, economic, and environmental development in our region. WMRC&D builds partnerships to complete projects focused on agriculture and conservation, improving water quality in local watersheds and the Chesapeake Bay, forestry and reforestation, wildlife conservation, and a variety of other efforts which seek to meet the needs of our communities.

CONTEXT OF THE POSITION

In coordination with the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Maryland State Office, this position helps to implement programs and provisions included in the Farm Bill. The primary duty station location is Annapolis, MD. The Administrative Assistant will provide assistance to the Assistant State Conservationist for Programs and other staff with administrative operations and perform special projects as requested. This position has a current term through September 30, 2028, with a possibility for extension.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Carries out administrative and clerical support processes, functions and coordinates with other program staff to implement office procedures.

· Assists with improving and streamlining NRCS processes and procedures to serve the best interests of the organization.

· Coordinates administrative tasks for training workshops such as locating meeting rooms, assisting with production of course materials, registration, and course evaluations.

· Ensures administrative activities are procedurally compliant and that all required tasks are being performed correctly.

· Provides support for technical document development and revisions, including tasks such as formatting, proofreading, and posting to NRCS websites and file sharing systems.

· Coordinates administrative efforts with other divisions to release memorandums, bulletins, and other notices.

· Performs other duties as assigned.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with education and/or experience commensurate with this position are preferred. Background and experience in the fields of agriculture, agronomy, forestry, engineering, natural resource conservation, and environmental restoration support is a plus.

In addition, the following are expected of applicants:

· Strong communication skills and organization skills are essential to the success of candidates within this position

· Proficiency in use of computers and applications relevant to conservation is expected (such as Microsoft Excel, Forms, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, SharePoint and Adobe Acrobat)

· A professional demeanor and be capable of working with team members within and outside the organization with a friendly and pleasant personality

· Capable of prioritizing and executing multiple tasks and projects in a dynamic, deadline-oriented environment

· The ability to work independently while effectively managing multiple priorities.

· A valid driver's license

· US Citizenship

· A clean criminal record verified by a standard background check with local, state, and national law enforcement agencies

· Must be willing to relocate or commute to Annapolis, Maryland
