About the Opportunity

The Somerset County Chamber of Commerce is seeking a vision-driven, relationship-oriented Executive Director to lead one of Pennsylvania's most strategically positioned rural business communities. Reporting to a committed Board of Directors, the Executive Director serves as the Chamber's chief executive and administrative leader — responsible for strategy, membership growth, financial stewardship, staff development, business advocacy, and community partnerships.

Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Planning


• Partner with the Board to assess member needs and community priorities.


• Lead long-range strategic planning and modernization initiatives.


• Ensure continuity across programs and leadership transitions.

Programs, Events & Member Value


• Evaluate programs to ensure ROI and relevance.


• Lead major events, community programming, and member engagement initiatives.


• Implement cost-benefit analysis and continuous improvements.

Financial & Operational Management


• Develop and manage the annual budget.


• Provide monthly financial reports.


• Ensure financial controls, compliance, and audit coordination.

Staff Leadership & Development


• Hire, supervise, and coach Chamber staff.


• Build a collaborative organizational culture.


• Support professional growth and accountability.

Membership Growth & Engagement


• Lead membership recruitment and retention strategies.


• Strengthen member relationships and responsiveness.


• Deliver high-quality service to members.

Board Governance & Partnership


• Collaborate with the Board President and Executive Committee.


• Prepare reports and strategic recommendations.


• Support board recruitment and orientation.

Community & Government Relations


• Represent the Chamber publicly and at key events.


• Strengthen relationships with government and community partners.


• Advocate for business-friendly policies.

Qualifications


• Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred.


• 5+ years in nonprofit, association, Chamber, or related leadership.


• Strong financial management and budgeting experience.


• Background in business development, community engagement, or marketing.


• Demonstrated success leading staff, volunteers, and Boards.


• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.


• Experience in government relations or fundraising preferred.


• Familiarity with Somerset County is a plus.
