Job Summary / Objective

In this role, the Sr. CNC Programmer & Machinist will set-up, program & operate various CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines, including mills and lathes to manufacture high-precision components according to engineering specifications. The Sr. CNC Programmer & Machinist has a deep understanding of various CNC machining processes, is proficient in various programming languages, and ensures the production of quality parts using various inspection equipment to ensure each part meets the customers' prints.

Main Tasks / Responsibilities

  • Develop and optimize CNC programs for various machines based on engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Experience and proficiency in multi-axis machining, including 4-axis and 5-axis milling.
  • Capability to program and operate machines with advanced motion capabilities.
  • Utilize CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing), and other software as required to generate complex toolpaths for machining operations.
  • Proficient in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) for creating or modifying part designs.
  • Collaborate with design and engineering teams to refine and improve machining processes.
  • Responsible to read and make programming edits as needed.
  • Set up CNC machines, including loading raw materials, securing workpieces, and selecting appropriate tooling.
  • Operate CNC machines to produce parts within specified tolerances and quality standards.
  • Monitor machine operations, make adjustments as needed to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
  • Conduct thorough inspections of machined parts to verify conformance to design specifications.
  • Troubleshoot and address any issues that may arise during the machining process.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, coordinating tasks and timelines effectively.
  • Experience in prioritizing work based on production schedules and project deadlines.
  • Implement corrective actions to improve production quality and efficiency.
  • Verification of CNC machined parts; inspect tool geometry using various measuring tools.
  • Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines and tools to ensure optimal performance.
  • Identify and replace worn or defective tooling to prevent production delays and maintain quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of CNC programs, tooling inventory, and production reports.
  • Document any changes made to CNC programs or machining processes.
  • Ability to generate reports on machine efficiency, production rates, and quality metrics.
  • Trainer and mentor for incumbent CNC Programmer & Operators and share knowledge and best practices to elevate the skills of the team.
  • Keep work area clean and organized.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/ Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree or 10+ years CNC programming and machining experience.
  • Proven experience as a CNC Programmer and Operator in a manufacturing environment.
  • Proficiency in CNC programming languages (G-code, M-code) and CAM software.
  • SolidWorks & Mach3 CAD/CAM software required.

  • Strong knowledge of machining processes, tool selection, and cutting parameters.
  • Ability to adapt to and implement new technologies and machining methods.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Excellent attention to detail and precision in executing machining tasks.

  • Ability to align CNC machining operations with overall business strategies.
  • Contribute to the strategic planning for the manufacturing department.
  • Self-motivated and can work independently with minimal guidance, as well as in a team setting.

Interpersonal skills necessary for developing positive working relationships with other employees, management and outside contractors.

Position Type, Expected Work Hours and Travel

Non-Exempt – FT

Onsite, Monday – Friday, some weekends & OT as required

The employee must frequently lift, carry and/or move up to 10 pounds and regularly lift, carry and/or move raw metal stock and finished components. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, ability to adjust focus and good hand eye coordination. Capability to perform repetitive tasks, such as loading and unloading materials, adjusting machine settings, and inspecting multiple parts.
