Job Description: General Manager – Fire/Water Mitigation & Restoration

Position Summary

The General Manager (GM) provides overall leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight for a fire and water mitigation company that also performs reconstruction and repairs. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality restoration services, drives financial performance, maintains regulatory compliance, and supports a strong culture of safety, accountability, and customer service. The GM oversees mitigation, reconstruction, sales, administration, and field operations teams to ensure seamless project execution from initial emergency response through final repairs.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Leadership

  • Oversee daily operations across mitigation, remediation, and reconstruction departments.
  • Create and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Lead scheduling, resource planning, and workflow management to optimize productivity and meet project deadlines.
  • Ensure proper documentation, job costing, and communication throughout all project phases.

Financial Management

  • Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and performance targets.
  • Monitor financial metrics including revenue, gross margin, profitability, and job costing accuracy.
  • Approve purchasing, subcontractor agreements, and expense controls.
  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and reduce costs.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Recruit, hire, train, and mentor staff across field and office roles.
  • Provide coaching, performance evaluations, and professional development plans.
  • Build a culture of accountability, teamwork, and safety.
  • Ensure staffing levels support operational needs and customer commitments.

Customer & Client Relations

  • Maintain strong relationships with homeowners, commercial clients, insurance adjusters, property managers, and other stakeholders.
  • Resolve escalated customer issues and ensure exceptional service delivery.
  • Oversee quality control to guarantee workmanship meets company and industry standards.

Sales & Business Development

  • Support sales efforts, including developing relationships with referral sources such as insurance carriers, plumbers, contractors, and property managers.
  • Review estimates, scopes, and contracts to ensure accuracy and profitability.
  • Identify market trends and opportunities for growth in mitigation and reconstruction services.

Compliance, Safety & Quality Control

  • Ensure company operations follow IICRC standards, local building codes, and insurance program requirements.
  • Maintain a strong safety program, including training, jobsite inspections, and incident reporting.
  • Oversee QA/QC processes to ensure high-quality mitigation and repair work.

Technology & Reporting

  • Ensure accurate job documentation within restoration management software (e.g., Xactimate, DASH, Encircle, PSA).
  • Report KPIs and operational performance to ownership or executive leadership.
  • Guide the adoption of new technologies or systems that improve efficiency and customer experience.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • 5+ years of management experience in mitigation, restoration, construction, or related industries.
  • Strong working knowledge of fire/water mitigation practices, reconstruction processes, and insurance claims handling.
  • Experience with estimating software (Xactimate preferred) and restoration management systems.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Certifications (Preferred)

  • IICRC certifications (WRT, ASD, FSRT, AMRT).
  • General Contractor license or similar construction-related credentials.
  • OSHA safety certifications.

Working Conditions

  • Mix of office and field environments, including active job sites.
  • May require after-hours availability during major loss events or emergency calls.
  • Some travel for training, site visits, or vendor meetings.

Pay: From $80,000.00 per year
