Job Description: Pre-Procedure Coordinator (Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Medical Assistant (MA))
Supervised By: Endoscopy Director
General Responsibilities: Under the supervision of the physician and in collaboration with other team members, the LPN or MA provides direct and indirect patient care in accordance with certification requirements, professional standards of care, state of Idaho regulations, AAAHC accreditation standards, and Idaho Gastroenterology's philosophy, policies, and procedures.
Other Responsibilities:
- Assist with carrying out all duties related to a patient's needs during the phase of care in which the coordinator is assisting under the direction/supervision of the registered nurse.
- Reviews medical information from referrals and other medical entities to determine patient appropriate scheduling and ensure exclusion criteria are not met.
- Initiates emergency measures when necessary
- Communicates pertinent information to co-workers and reports errors in a timely manner to the charge nurse or supervisor
- Assist in gathering additional records that would support patient treatment
- Complete health history and chart prep by utilizing EMR and supporting electronic medical records for patients prior to the date of service
- Provide a safe environment for the patient to prevent potential injury. Investigate and intervene in problem situations, reporting appropriate information to the nurse lead and/or supervisor, and document the same.
- Provide guidance to other staff members, assisting with orientation as needed.
- Is knowledgeable in and follows the exclusion criteria and policies set by the Endoscopy Centers.
- Initiate patient teaching and discussion of prep instructions and documentation for the patient's understanding
- Consult with the appropriate supervisor or physicians as needed
- Complete patient documentation in a clear, concise, and timely manner using the designated EMR system
- Seek educational opportunities and accept responsibility for own professional growth and development. Participate in training offered on-site, staff meetings, and other meetings as required
- Accept direction from supervisor and/or physicians and adhere to established procedures and policies

- Observe safety and security procedures; report potentially unsafe conditions; use equipment and materials properly.
- Maintain the patient's right to privacy by not discussing privileged information outside the work area or within hearing range of visitors/family or patient
- Function within the legal limits of the Nurse Practice Act
- Participate in the QI program as needed
- Complete yearly competency modules
- Maintain computer skills required to function in the current EMR.
- Utilize Microsoft Outlook email for non-patient correspondence and the current EMR for patient care correspondence/documentation
- Demonstrate respect for IGA policies for security, privacy, and confidentiality while using IGA equipment.
- Follow personnel policies contained within the IGA personnel manual
- Immediately reports any network, hardware, or software malfunction to the IT Officer and/or the on-shift supervisor
- Flexibility with assignments; able to work at all IGA endoscopy locations when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:
- LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) License or graduate of a Registered Medical Assistant program
- Preferred current certification as a Medical Assistant
- Experience in ambulatory surgery or endoscopy preferred
- Membership in Gastroenterology or endoscopy specialty, or other local, state or national professional societies encouraged
- Maintain BLS certification
- Able to tolerate normal sitting, pulling/pushing, kneeling, stooping, bending, reaching, talking, and hearing.
