ABOUT THE NELSON GOLF AND SPORTS CLUBWe are looking for an individual that wants to pursue career growth within the turf industry. In addition to opportunities to grow at The Nelson, Century Golf Partners offers a vast network of golf courses from coast to coast.
The Nelson Golf and Sports Club has 36 holes of golf over 400 acres of pure luxury. Ranked among America's leading venues, TPC Las Colinas and Cottonwood Valley are part of our comprehensive, award-winning Dallas golf club and resort. TPC proudly hosted the Byron Nelson Championship, an annual PGA TOUR event for 35 years and is an 18-hole, par 70 course measuring 7,166 yards from the championship tees. The 18-hole, par 71 Cottonwood Valley golf course measures 7,120 yards.
As a Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, the two private golf courses have an array of native and ornamental plants and wildlife inventory. The Agronomy Department was honored as the Overall and National Private recipient of the 2017 Environmental Leaders in Golf Awards (ELGA), which are presented annually by GCSAA and Golf Digest. The awards recognize golf course superintendents and their courses for overall course management excellence and best management practices in the areas of water conservation, water quality management, energy conservation, pollution prevention, waste management, wildlife and habitat conservation, communication and outreach, and leadership.
The Golf Course Superintendent is responsible for the maintenance, operations, and management of the golf course and practice facilities. This position carefully manages the maintenance inputs to the golf course while conserving and protecting natural resources. The Golf Course Superintendent directly influences the playing areas and landscapes with which golfers interact.
EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND SKILLS REQUIRED- Minimum Certificate in Turfgrass Management or similar field. Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Turf Management or related field preferred. Certificate Degree holders must be in continuing education working towards an Associate Degree or attending industry standard education such as GreenKeeper University.
- Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass management practices, a working knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices, and methods, and a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
- 3-5 years of turfgrass management experience.
- High degree of administrative and executive ability, particularly in problem-solving and decision-making.
- Proficiency in computer use, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and other relevant applications.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting golf course operations, including employment, safety, and environmental standards.
- Participation in continuing education opportunities such as seminars, workshops, correspondence courses, field days, and trade shows.
- Possess or be able to obtain the state / federal / local required pesticide applicator license within 90 days of employment.
- Valid driver's license required.
The Course Superintendent assumes responsibility for managing and maintaining golf course properties, which may include:
- The golf course(s), including greens, tees, fairways, rough, bunkers, and cart paths.
- Maintenance equipment and the golf car fleet.
- Clubhouse grounds, landscaping, and other recreational facilities (e.g., tennis courts, swimming pools).
- Open spaces, wooded areas, unused acreage, and areas outside the perimeter fence.
- Sod farm, nursery, or other properties as specified by the supervisor.
- Construction, renovation, and/or reconstruction of such properties, whether performed by maintenance staff or outside contractors.
- Supervision and maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems, including pump stations.
- Acquisition of equipment and purchasing necessary supplies to maintain club properties.
- Inventory control and oversight of equipment maintenance programs.
- Prepares and manages annual budgets for maintenance and capital improvements, aligning with long-range plans and defined maintenance standards.
- Interviews, hires, trains, and supervises staff, with authority to terminate employment, appraise performance, reward, discipline, and resolve issues.
- Plans all maintenance and project work, applying agronomic and administrative expertise to achieve maintenance standards and long-range goals.
- Oversees scheduling and routing of personnel and equipment to accomplish work efficiently.
- Frequently inspects the golf course and related areas to evaluate management standards and implement changes as needed.
- Participates in all long-range planning meetings to align maintenance with strategic goals.
- Organizes and executes precise programs for the application of pesticides, fertilizers, and seed, ensuring proper documentation and safe handling/storage.
- Practices sound agronomic principles to maintain healthy turf and landscapes.
- Scouts the golf course regularly for insect, weed, and disease problems, diagnosing issues and taking corrective action.
- Performs all jobs in GCM as needed including Agronomy Laborer, Agronomy Equipment Operator, Foreman and all Technician duties.

- Good communication skills and work with others in a team atmosphere.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
