Job Description

Crown is searching for Air Traffic Control Radar Engineers and Technicians with experience with digital Primary Airport Surveillance Radar (DASR) Systems, such as FAA ASR-9, ASR-11 models, and FAA Secondary Radar System, such as the ATCBI-6/Mode-S or comparable military primary and secondary radar systems to perform system analysis and optimize new ATC Radar Systems for integration into the NAS.  Military personnel with experience in radar systems perform critical roles across various branches of the U.S. Armed Forces, focusing on the operation, and engineering support of sophisticated radar equipment are also eligible to apply.  Prior FAA Technicians will extensive skills related to the optimization and integration of radar systems into the NAS can also apply

  • Positions Available:
    • Mid-Level Test Engineer
    • Senior-Level Test Engineer

Test Engineering positions for site analysis and optimization will be from 80-100% Travel.

Responsibilities:

  • The Test Engineer (TE) oversees the integration and testing of radar systems at the site, ensuring compliance with performance specifications and regulatory standards.
  • The Non-Cooperative System Radar (Primary) and Cooperative System Radar (Secondary) systems will be optimized to meet Air Traffic coverage requirements whereby an optimization report that identifies all site adaptable parameters and their optimized values will be provided that performs analysis of the system performance coverage for all air traffic requirements.
  • The Site TE lead will coordinate all phases of the implementation of the RSR with the designated FAA site and facility personnel during the optimization to minimize the impact on day-to-day operations at the designated site.
  • Interpret radar data to identify potential threats or operational issues and ensures radar systems function properly and accurately.  Evaluate target accuracy for both fixed and moving targets is critical for ensuring safe separation and operational efficiency often using Flight Check aircraft or other targets of opportunity, to verify both video and fixed map accuracy.
  • The Site TE will conduct a Site Acceptance Test (SAT) that includes an end-to-end solution verification test to validate the RSR installation, operation and performance.
  • At the completion of optimization, the site optimization TE will provide a COTS System Optimization Manual to familiarize FAA support personnel with adaptable parameters and their uses and limitations to affect systems performance after installation of the new service along with any Red-Lined Drawing prepared.
  • Optimization and equipment training will be provided to familiarize each TE assigned to support the integration of the new radar systems into the NAS.
Qualifications
  • A background in electrical engineering, systems engineering, or a related field, typically supported by an BSEE or MSEE degree, is required, along with experience in radar system design, testing, and integration is a plus.
  • For Mid-Level Systems Engineer, a minimum of 6 years of experience in radar signal processing, digital and analog circuits, microprocessors, antenna performance for the primary and secondary radar systems, and possess the ability to use diagnostic tools and software
  • For Senior-Level Systems Engineer, a minimum of 12 years of experience in radar signal processing, digital and analog circuits, microprocessors, antenna performance for the primary and secondary radar systems, and possess the ability to use diagnostic tools and software
  • Knowledge of electronics, radar systems, networking, and troubleshooting is essential, often gained through formal education or specialized technical training.
  • Site TE should be knowledgeable with Radar network integration that involves connecting radar systems to other devices or networks for enhanced functionality, data sharing, and coordinated operations in which radar systems can be integrated with other IP devices for security and automation.
  • Proficiency with tools such as oscilloscopes, network analyzers, power meters and signal generators is crucial for system optimization and maintenance.

Ability to analyze facility drawings for accuracy and provide red-line changes where appropriate
