Maintenance Controls Technician

Location: Swedesboro, NJ
Job Type: Full-Time

Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Controls Technician to provide second-level electrical and controls support that ensures safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations. This role is responsible for programming, troubleshooting, and improving PLC/HMI systems, supporting capital projects, and driving process improvements. The Maintenance Controls Technician reports to the Director of Maintenance & Facilities.

Key ResponsibilitiesControls & Automation

  • Program, modify, and update PLC and HMI code (Rockwell RSLogix 5, RSLogix 500, PanelBuilder).
  • Configure and support SCADA/HMI systems (iFIX, Wonderware, RSView).
  • Demonstrate strong knowledge of industrial control networks (Profibus, DeviceNet, DH+, Ethernet, ControlNet).
  • Apply IT and networking knowledge to automation systems.

Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Serve as a second-level electrical/controls resource; provide first-level support as needed.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical designs, PLC ladder logic, SCADA screens, and related control systems.
  • Interpret blueprints, schematics, ladder diagrams, and exploded parts diagrams.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize downtime.
  • Validate and update equipment programming for maintenance or process changes.

Process Improvement & Projects

  • Execute controls/electrical portions of capital projects and process improvement initiatives.
  • Lead problem-solving activities to reduce unplanned downtime and prevent recurrence.
  • Recommend and implement equipment upgrades or modifications.
  • Utilize predictive maintenance tools routinely.
  • Modify PM job plans based on OEE data or other performance insights.
  • Update documentation, prints, and equipment records.

Leadership & Training

  • Serve as a "Learning Leader" for new technologies; train electricians, operators, and mechanics.
  • Support cross-functional teams and participate in project/problem-solving groups.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety procedures including lockout/tagout, confined space entry, hot work permits, and GMP guidelines.
  • Ensure all electrical work adheres to the National Electric Code (NEC).
  • Perform routine area audits and address unsafe conditions.
  • Report hazards and participate in maintaining a safe workplace.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Operate, adjust, repair, and overhaul equipment as needed.
  • Assist with changeovers, equipment rebuilds, fabrication, and material updates.
  • Write work orders, initiate parts purchases, and maintain accountability for tools.
  • Collaborate with internal customers to improve systems and processes.
  • Perform duties with a focus on quality craftsmanship and ownership.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & SkillsTechnical Experience

  • Strong understanding of process control sequences in manufacturing environments.
  • Experience in food, beverage, aseptic processing, packaging automation, or pharmaceutical environments preferred.
  • Ability to program, troubleshoot, and maintain PLC, HMI, and SCADA systems.
  • Knowledge of IT applications relevant to industrial controls.

General Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret complex instructions, diagrams, gauges, tables, and schematics.
  • Strong math skills including fractions, decimals, conversions, percentages, and basic calculations.
  • Ability to write clear communication and present information in small group settings.
  • Strong problem-solving, self-direction, and decision-making skills.

Certifications

  • Forklift Certification (required)
  • Respiratory Certification (required

Job Types: Full-time, Contract

Pay: $ $45.00 per hour
