Job Details

The Laboratory Manager oversees the day-to-day operations of the laboratory, ensuring that activities run efficiently, safely, and in compliance with institutional and regulatory standards. This position supervises laboratory coordinators and support staff, manages budgets and inventories, and ensures that equipment, materials, and resources are maintained to support ongoing research and academic activities. The Manager plays a key role in coordinating administrative functions, maintaining documentation, and supporting faculty and research personnel by ensuring that laboratory infrastructure and processes operate smoothly.

Job Description

  • Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
  • Develops, prepares, and oversees laboratory budgets; monitors expenditures and ensures alignment with financial objectives.
  • Manages laboratory inventories, including procurement, maintenance, and lifecycle management of supplies, equipment, and consumables to support uninterrupted operations.

  • Supervises and mentors laboratory personnel, providing technical guidance and training on advanced methodologies, safety protocols, and best research practices.

  • Coordinates and facilitates intra- and inter-departmental research meetings, seminars, and collaborative presentations to promote knowledge exchange and scientific advancement.

  • Identifies and resolves issues in experimental design or workflow, applying analytical and problem-solving skills to maintain research integrity and efficiency.

  • Serves as the primary liaison with equipment manufacturers and service providers for installation, calibration, and repair of laboratory instruments.

  • Collects, compiles, and interprets experimental data; prepares detailed analytical reports, presentations, and contributions to externally reviewed documents, grant applications, and publications.

  • Assists in administrative processes including personnel management, compliance documentation, and strategic planning to support institutional and departmental goals.

  • Develops and maintains standard operating procedures (SOPs) for lab operations, safety, and maintenance practices.

Master's Degree required; 6+ years supervisory experience.
