About the Cycle Oregon Foundation

The Cycle Oregon Foundation (dba Cycle Oregon) is an Oregon-based nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing the joy and benefits of riding a bicycle to all of Oregon. Over the last 35+ years, Cycle Oregon has built a passionate, loyal community of cycling enthusiasts by hosting world-class, fully supported rides through Oregon's most breathtaking landscapes and supporting communities through grants from the Cycle Oregon Fund. Cycle Oregon advocates for safe and increased opportunities for biking in Oregon. Through its education program arm, Cycle Oregon delivers statewide Safe Routes to School Curriculum to rural communities, supports community Bike Rodeos, hosts Summer Kids Camps and conducts an annual bike giveaway program. Through the Cycle Oregon Fund we strategically invest in projects focused on bicycle safety and education, bicycle resources and bicycle infrastructure programs.

Position Summary: The Development Director will be a key member of the leadership team, responsible for establishing and executing a comprehensive fundraising and donor stewardship program for the newly established Cycle Oregon Foundation. The role involves building, maintaining and expanding a diverse donor portfolio, including individual, corporate, and foundation donors. The Development Director will lead efforts in building a donor stewardship program from the ground up, focused on fostering long-term relationships and supporting the mission to bring the joy of riding a bicycle to all Oregonians.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Donor Cultivation, Management and Stewardship
  • Build and manage a portfolio of small- and mid-level individual donors, ensuring regular communication, recognition, and engagement.
  • Collaborate with the leadership team and the board of directors to support large individual donor initiatives and board giving.
  • Design and launch a comprehensive donor stewardship program, fostering a community of support around the Cycle Oregon mission.
  • Develop tailored stewardship plans for different donor segments, including corporations and foundations.

  • Corporate Giving

  • Manage relationships with corporate partners to secure donations, sponsorships for events and grants.

  • Grant Management

  • Oversee foundation grant writing, collaborating with the Executive Director and possible contracted grant writers.
  • Partner with the leadership team and the Board of Directors to manage and oversee large foundation grants, from application to reporting.
  • Track grant deadlines, submission requirements, and reporting obligations to ensure compliance and maintain strong relationships with grant-making organizations.

  • Community Engagement and Events

  • Support events and community engagement activities that increase visibility for the Cycle Oregon Foundation.
  • Work closely with the leadership team to identify and develop event opportunities that align with fundraising goals, including planning our annual First Ride, Big Dreams fundraising event to raise critical funds for Cycle Oregon Foundation.

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, donor management, or related fields.
  • Proven success in developing, stewarding and managing donor relationships.
  • Strong grant writing skills, with experience in securing corporate and foundation funding.
  • Knowledge of donor management systems and donor database management best practices. Bloomerang experience a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Passion for and the ability to speak to the importance of the Cycle Oregon Foundation's mission of exposing all Oregonians to the joy of riding a bicycle.
  • A valid driver's license and reliable vehicle (mileage reimbursed).

Salary range: $75,000 - $85,000 DOE

Benefits: per Cycle Oregon policy (PTO, Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k) match and more)

Hours: full time exempt, flexible, evenings, weekend and travel required

Location: Portland or Bend; some hybrid schedule flexibility
