General Manager Job Description

General Managers are operational leaders and primary supervisors for our workforce. They serve as the connective tissue in Operations between Program Management Offices, Human Resources, and the workforce, ensuring our people are supported, aligned, and empowered to succeed. With supervisory responsibilities of up to 30 personnel, General Managers focus on workforce readiness, engagement, and strategic resourcing, driving both individual development and operational performance. 

This role is people-centric, accountability-driven, and team oriented-first. GMs foster an environment where individuals thrive as part of high-performing teams, emphasizing collaboration, clarity of purpose, and well-defined team interactions. They ensure teams are structured for flow and empowered to deliver value without unnecessary friction. GMs guide, mentor, and support the individuals and teams who power our day-to-day execution. While they do not manage projects directly, they are fully responsible for shaping, resourcing, and sustaining the people and team dynamics that enable overall project success.

General Managers typically fulfill the following responsibilities:

  • Staffing – Interviewing candidates and hiring staff
  • Discipline; taking corrective action, terminating staff, and oversee overall health of the department
  • Oversight of individualized professional development plans for each employee's development
  • Provide expert consultation and be responsible for the growth and development of the department and teams
  • Evaluation – Champion communication, feedback, recognition; provide input and feedback on performance; conduct overall performance evaluation
  • Recommend promotion or reassignment; Approve promotion/reassignment
  • Supervision – Validate work assignment quality; Assign work or project assignments; set schedules/approve time off; Establish goals and performance metrics
  • Process/Policies – Develop process/policy changes; Implement process/policy changes and ensure department alignment with the strategic vision of the company

A typical day as a General Manager may include the following:

  • Participation in management centric meetings
  • Reviewing and providing input on project resource allocation
  • Providing feedback and mentorship to team members and supporting their career growth (i.e. employee one-on-ones, performance reviews, etc.)
  • Coaching leaders and teams in Lean-Agile practices and mindsets
  • Providing input on resourcing to address critical bottlenecks

General Managers typically carry the following qualifications:

  • Relevant experience in functional or technical domains
  • 1-3 years' experience in direct supervisor or people management role
  • Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills in a high degree of emotional intelligence
  • Proven ability to lead diverse teams and align people to business goals
  • Deep understanding of operational structures and how to optimize resource deployment
  • Effective communicator with a collaborative and proactive mindset

Salary: 

Salary will be based on the experience, skills, and qualifications that the candidate brings to the position. Starting salary is $102,500.00

Other Requirements:

  • Due to the nature of our work, it is mandatory that you are a U.S. Citizen and able to comply with Government regulations
  • Successfully complete background check and maintain a valid USA driver's license
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance
