Support the Education Manager to implement high-quality care of students following all funding and regulatory guidelines, including- NAEYC, Head Start, and Great Start Readiness Program. Supervise a caseload of education staff on a day-to-day basis under minimal supervision; implement the overall goals of the Children's programs; ensure that the classroom team carries out an appropriate curriculum within the classroom setting; aid and support teachers in their oversight of classroom staff. Collaborate with local school districts to provide a bridge between Head Start classrooms and school staff.

  1. Supervise assigned classroom staff on a day-to-day basis, across the identified caseload.

  2. Monitor daily operations, providing information for programmatic purposes.

  3. Responsible for facilitating monthly staff meetings, and bi-weekly classroom touch bases.

  4. Responsible for completion of evaluations and discipline of staff- noted in accordance with the CAA Personnel Policies, Union Contract and Affirmative Action Plan. Working closely with staff to achieve goals and objectives within the evaluation process, including Performance improvement Plans, and goal setting

  5. Provide input into the planning of all components of the program (Head Start and GSRP); including evaluation, grant writing and proposal development.

  6. Know and function in accordance with all required standards and licensing guidelines including Head Start Performance Standards, Great Start Readiness Program Standards, NAEYC Standards, and State of Michigan Child Daycare Licensing Regulations.

  7. Work with community partners, (attending all required meetings, trainings, and conferences), representing the Community Action Agency in a professional and positive manner. Including training/working with volunteers.

  8. Maintain active role with the Great Start Collaborative.

  9. Assist in Program monitoring including ongoing monitoring and self-assessment review and reports.

  10. Participate in team meetings, case conferences, and facilitate classroom support plans.

  11. Share responsibility for promoting parent involvement in all program areas. Be available to assist parents with questions, issues and concerns.

  12. Plan/carry out procedures, including appropriate forms for documenting and recording classroom observations. Meeting with staff on and on-going basis to provide feedback. This includes training staff in appropriate measure in order to achieve desired outcome.

  13. Review classroom paperwork- lesson plans, newsletters, home visit, conference, attendance, accident, TS Gold and Child Plus reports including all other reports as assigned and provide feedback as necessary to classroom staff.

  14. Serve as a resource to staff and provide feedback as needed

  15. Assist in recruiting, screening, interviewing, and hiring of education staff. Upon hire of staff, participating in the onboarding and ongoing review of new hires.

  16. Other duties as assigned.

  17. Monitor, support, and organize teacher call-ins and determine if a classroom closure is required. If closure is required, emailing appropriate staff and community partners in a timely manner.

Other Hiring Contingencies: Must be able to pass all required background checks. Show proof of a physical exam signed by a licensed physician that declares, to the best of the physician's knowledge, the physical capability of the staff member to perform the essential duties required or obtain a physical through CAA's provider. A negative TB test within the last 12 months or before starting position.

Supervises: Teachers, Teacher Assistants, and Child Care Aides (as assigned)

1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education.

2. Work Experience: Three (3) years' experience in an Early Childhood Education Program, including supervisory experience. Any equivalent combination of education and work experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities for the position may be considered at the discretion of the CEO.

3. Training: CLASS Certification, TS Gold, CPR and First Aide, and others as required (may be obtained during employment).

4. Certification/Licenses: To maintain a valid Michigan Driver's license. CLASS Certification.

5. Transportation: Must have access to reliable transportation throughout the workday. Must have the ability to travel outside the area, including overnight as needed for trainings.

6. Basic Skills: Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to compose and edit letters, including collecting, analyzing, presenting data/information for meeting or training purposes. Must be detail-oriented and able to prioritize and complete tasks within a timely manner, coordinating several tasks simultaneously while meeting multiple deadlines.

7. Problem Solving, Decision Making, and Interpersonal Skills: Must be able to work independently with little or no supervision. Must have initiative to anticipate situations. Good rapport with various socio-economic levels. Must be flexible in attitude. Promote teamwork. Participate as a team member with other Agency staff and as part of interagency teams. Maintain absolute confidentiality in all sensitive matters using tact and diplomacy-promoting team participation with agency staff and interagency teams.

8. Physical and Mental Capabilities: Must be conscientious and alert in a busy and often hectic atmosphere with ability to handle numerous tasks at once. Ability to think quickly maintaining personal poise when speaking with interagency teams.
