The Emergency Pet Hospital of Glendora is a small animal emergency and urgent care hospital providing immediate care for sick and injured pets. Our caseload includes trauma, respiratory distress, toxin ingestions, GI emergencies, endocrine crises, and other urgent and critical conditions. We operate M-F 9a-6pm and 24 hour on the weekend and some Major Holidays.
In every case, we offer not just medical support, but a compassionate hand and a listening ear to both our patients and the pet parents who trust us in some of their hardest moments.

We are looking for an experienced emergency/urgent care veterinary technician who thrives in a fast-paced setting and is passionate about stabilizing and supporting critical patients while showing genuine empathy to their families.
Key Responsibilities
Triage & Patient Intake
- Perform initial triage on walk-in emergencies and direct transfers from neighboring general practice hospitals for continued care
- Prioritize cases based on severity and communicate clearly with doctors and client service staff
- Obtain accurate and quick patient histories from clients, even in stressful or emotional situations
- Approach every interaction with empathy, patience, and clear communication
Emergency & Critical Nursing Care
- Place IV catheters; perform venipuncture and collect blood/urine samples
- Administer IV, IM, SQ, and PO medications as directed by the veterinarian
- Monitor and care for hospitalized and ICU patients (shock, respiratory, neurologic, post-op, etc.)
- Set up and monitor fluid therapy, CRIs, and oxygen therapy (including ICU/oxygen cage use, if applicable)
- Assist with emergency procedures such as CPR/CPCR, wound care, bandaging, and basic stabilization
Diagnostics
- Obtain high-quality digital radiographs, including trauma and orthopedic views
- Operate IDEXX and Abaxis in-house diagnostic machines (including Abaxis Imagyst) for laboratory testing and imaging support
- Run CBC, chemistry, electrolytes, SNAP tests, urinalysis, and other in-house diagnostics
- Assist with ultrasound, blood pressure, EKG, and other monitoring equipment
Anesthesia & Surgery Support
- Induce, monitor, and recover patients for emergency/urgent surgeries (for example, foreign body, GDV, pyometra, C-section)
- Set up and operate anesthetic monitoring equipment (ECG, SpO2, blood pressure, ETCO2, temperature) and document anesthetic parameters
- Recognize early signs of anesthetic complications or potential decompensation, promptly communicate concerns to the veterinarian, and assist with stabilization
- Anticipate the needs of the veterinarian during procedures
Client Communication & Teamwork
- Provide clear, compassionate patient updates and discharge instructions
- Offer emotional support and a reassuring, calm presence for worried pet parents
- Collaborate with veterinarians, technicians, assistants, and CSRs to keep ER flow efficient and organized
Hospital Support
- Maintain a clean, organized, and well-stocked treatment and ICU area
- Follow all safety, infection control, and animal handling protocols
- Assist with proper use and basic maintenance checks of medical equipment
Qualifications
Experience
- Two or more years of experience working as a veterinary technician or veterinary assistant (credentialed technicians—RVT, LVT, CVT—are a plus but not required).
Technical Skills
- Solid hands-on technical ability, including blood draws, IV catheter placement, in-house lab testing, taking and positioning for radiographs, safe animal restraint, surgical preparation, emergency support, and professional client communication.
- Familiarity with Pulse practice management software for charting, invoicing, and medical record management is a big plus.

- Demonstrates strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, quickly recognizing what emergency care a patient needs based on their presentation.
Preferred Experience
- Bilingual communication and/or prior work in emergency, specialty, or critical care settings.
Physical Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Capable of lifting 40+ lbs (with assistance)
- Comfortable standing and walking for long periods during 6–8 hour shifts
Schedule & Compensation
- Schedule: Part-time position with 6–8 hour shifts, 2–3 shifts per week. Weekends and holidays are required. Swing shifts begin at 6pm.
- Competitive pay (DOE):
- Veterinary Technician Assistants: $21–$24/hour depending on experience and knowledge
- Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs): $25–$30/hour depending on experience and knowledge
