Team Leadership and Management: Lead and mentor a team of mobile network engineers and technicians, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance. This includes managing daily tasks for both the 24/7 operations team and the 9-5 project team, conducting performance reviews, and overseeing staff development.
Operational Oversight: Ensure the smooth and efficient 24/7 operation of our mobile and fixed network. This involves monitoring network health, managing day-to-day operational tasks, and developing and implementing operational procedures and best practices.
Incident and Problem Management: Act as the primary escalation point for all major incidents. Drive the incident management process from detection to resolution, ensuring timely communication to stakeholders and conducting thorough root cause analysis to prevent future occurrences.
Project Management: Oversee and deliver key operational projects, such as network upgrades, new technology deployments, and capacity enhancements. Ensure projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
Stakeholder and Vendor Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, including engineering, product, and customer support teams. Manage key vendor relationships, ensuring service level agreements (SLAs) are met and holding vendors accountable for performance and service quality.
Budgeting and Resource Planning: Assist in budget planning for the operations department and manage team resources effectively to meet operational and project goals.
Ensure Sky adhere to the Telecommunications Security Act in all operational tasks.
Lead operational reviews with all vendors (e.g. Nokia, Amdocs, Ribbon, Streamwide, Sinch).
Whatyou'llbring: We're looking for a skilled and experienced Mobile Operations Lead to head up our fixed and mobile operations teams. This role is crucial for ensuring the stability, performance, and reliability of our network infrastructure, which is increasingly built on cloud-native principles. You'll manage a diverse team of professionals, split between 24/7 shift-based operations and a 9-5 project team with on-call duties. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader with a deep understanding of mobile network technologies, excellent problem-solving skills, and a proven track record in incident and vendor management, particularly in a cloud-native environment
Extensive experience in mobile telecommunications or a similar networking role.
Strong background in a leadership or management position, specifically leading technical and/or operational teams.
Deep understanding of mobile network technologies (e.g., 4G/LTE, 5G, core network, RAN).
Proven experience in incident management, with the ability to lead a team through high-pressure situations.
Desirable Skills:
A bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Telecommunications, Computer Science, or Engineering).
Certifications in IT Service Management (e.g., ITIL Foundation).
Experience with network automation and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible).
Experience in vendor management, including negotiating and managing service level agreements (SLAs).
Strong working knowledge of cloud computing platforms, specifically AWS.
Experience with a modern network monitoring suite and observability platforms (e.g. Grafana).
Experience with Containerized Network Functions (CNF), Virtual Network Functions (VNF), and Kubernetes. This includes the deployment, scaling, and management of these technologies.
Team overview: Service Reliability The Service Reliability teamis responsible forthe 24/7 running of Sky’s telecoms network.It provides the primary 24/7 service desk for Group Networks routing incident tickets both within the department and to other on-call support teams within Group Networks.The department isdirectly responsibleforexecuting playbooks forproblem resolution within theFixed Voice and Mobilenetwork domains.
