About the Role:

As part of our commitment to developing the next generation of behavioral health providers, we are actively seeking graduate-level interns looking to fulfill their supervised field placement requirements.

As a Therapist Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience providing direct counseling services under the supervision of licensed clinicians. You'll support youth, adults, and families in developing healthier ways to cope, connect, and grow.You'll participate in intakes, counseling, case management, group facilitation, and interdisciplinary collaboration building the foundation you need to launch your career in behavioral health.

You Will:

  • Use positive, trauma-informed approaches to address difficult behaviors
  • Support parents with alternative tools and approaches
  • Collaborate with therapists, case managers, schools, and other providers
  • Participate in CFT meetings, offer insight, and advocate for client progress
  • Keep detailed documentation to track outcomes and celebrate wins
  • Provide counseling services to a diverse set of clients, including youth, adults, and families.
  • Support group therapy sessions and co-facilitate when ready.
  • Develop discharge, transition, and aftercare plans with guidance.
  • Write safety, behavioral, and complete assessments and treatment plans under supervision.
  • Complete progress notes and documentation for each session.
  • Participate in weekly supervision and team collaboration.
  • Integrate feedback from your supervisor into your practice.
  • Work toward completing your educational and licensing requirements.

What You'll Learn

By the end of your internship, you'll have experience in:

  • Conducting client intakes.
  • Facilitating group sessions.
  • Supporting individual counseling.
  • Providing case management.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Practicing trauma-informed and culturally responsive care.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Currently enrolled in a Master's-level degree program in Clinical Mental Health, Social Work, Psychology, Marriage and Family Therapy, or Counseling.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Fingerprint Clearance Card required.
  • Negative TB test.
  • CPR/First Aid Certification (or willingness to obtain).

Internship Hours

Free Life Wellness Center operates Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM. Internship schedules may vary depending on your program requirements and availability, with opportunities for evening coverage to support families when they need us most.
