Job Description:

As a Data Engineer on our team, you'll help uncover insights that directly improve care and outcomes for our nation's Veterans. The VA's data ecosystem is vast, complex, and filled with opportunities to drive better decisions through analytics, AI, and modern data engineering. We're looking for someone who is energized by exploring data, building reliable pipelines, and enabling advanced analytics across both on-prem and cloud environments.

In this role, you'll collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand their questions, identify the right data sources, and engineer solutions that transform raw data into actionable intelligence. You will design and maintain data pipelines, build analytical models, develop dashboards, and support AI/ML initiatives using the right mix of SQL, Python, cloud data services, and visualization tools. Your curiosity and proactive approach will help the team continuously discover new VA data sources and unlock new opportunities for insight.

You Have:

  • 5+ years of experience in data engineering, data analysis, or data science
  • Strong SQL skills for on-premises querying and data extraction
  • Experience with Python for analytics, data processing, or AI/ML workloads
  • Hands-on experience building dashboards or visualizations (Power BI preferred)
  • Experience integrating data from multiple sources using tools such as: ,
    SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Databricks
  • Experience working with relational or NoSQL databases (e.g., SQL Server, DynamoDB)
  • Experience analyzing structured and unstructured data
  • Experience developing predictive or analytical models and performing quantitative analysis
  • Ability to lead the development of solutions to complex data engineering or analytics problems
  • Experience with machine learning, natural language processing, or advanced analytics
  • Bachelor's degree
  • A proactive, curiosity-driven mindset suited for exploring and evaluating VA data sources

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with cloud AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, SageMaker, Databricks ML)
  • Experience with data visualization libraries (e.g., Plotly, Seaborn, ggplot2)
  • Experience with distributed computing or modern data ecosystems (e.g., Spark, Kafka, Hadoop)
  • Experience working with Oracle Health data sources
  • Public Trust clearance with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs

Compensation:

$130,000-$140,000 annually, plus benefits, including medical/dental/vision coverage, PTO and a partial 401k match.

Applicants selected will be subject to a government investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements of the U.S. government client.
