We are seeking an experienced Construction Inspector II to join our expanding Colorado Springs team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with construction managers and project engineers to observe and inspect transportation construction projects.

Summary:
As a Construction Inspector II, you will serve as an inspector for defined segments of large projects or programs, or as the construction manager for small projects under the guidance of a project manager. This role offers an excellent opportunity to utilize your experience and leadership skills while contributing to the success of complex construction projects. 

Position Title: Construction Inspector II
Position Reports to: Project Manager

Supervisory Responsibilities: May coordinate, train, and assign tasks to interns, entry-level engineers, and inspectors.
Compensation: $32.00 – $38.00 per hour. This is a non-exempt position under the FLSA. The pay range provided is an estimate; the final hourly rate will be determined based on internal equity, established salary ranges, relevant skills, experience, qualifications, and current market conditions. 

Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities to include, but not limited to the following:

  • Observe and inspect ongoing construction work under the direction of the Construction Manager or inspection team leads to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and contract documents.
  • Maintain accurate daily inspection reports documenting job site activities, including work performed, materials used, and verification of quantities against contractor-submitted reports to identify any impacts to budget or schedule. 
  • Review and assist with submittals including materials, method statements, and shop drawings.
  • Conduct field measurements to establish quantities for pay item documentation and reconciling with contractors.
  • Review third-party materials testing frequency, documentation, and compliance with standards. 
  • Utilize digital tools (e.g., Excel) to explain pay quantities and variations from plans. 
  • Coordinate quality assurance (QA) activities with quality control (QC) efforts to ensure that all work meets project specifications, standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with utility coordination and potential right-of-way issue resolution as needed.
  • Read and interpret roadway, structure, bridge plans and specifications.
  • Conduct field measurements to establish quantities for pay item documentation and reconciling with contractors.
  • Inspect work zones for placement and maintenance of traffic control devices and erosion control measures in accordance with project specifications and safety standards.
  • Operate and maintain specialized inspection equipment. 
  • Attend relevant training and obtain advanced inspection certifications.
  • Proactively monitor construction sites to detect and prevent safety, health and environmental hazards, ensuring all activities comply with safety standards and best practices.
  • Ensure proper use of required personal protective equipment (PPE) on job sites, including wearing appropriate gear and confirming compliance with safety protocols.
  • Promptly report and document unsafe conditions to supervisors or management.
  • Demonstrate clear, timely communication with both internal and external stakeholders, utilizing each party's preferred method of communication channel (e.g., phone, email, text)
  • Maintain flexibility to work varying shift lengths and schedules, including daytime, nighttime, weekends and occasional travel. Work hours will vary depending on project demands.
  • Operate and maintain company-issued equipment, including vehicles, inspection tools and other job site resources, in accordance with safety protocols and maintenance standards.

Leadership and Safety

  • Coordinate with and guide less experienced staff and interns.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Confidence and proficiency to independently oversee entire work areas or multiple operations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, cloud-based file servers, and GIS asset management software.
  • Ability to learn quickly, adapt to changing project needs, and work responsibly.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma plus 4 years of relevant construction inspection experience or equivalent education/experience.
