Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Utility Design Engineer to join our dynamic team. The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in utility design, specializing in the layout of power lines and foundation design. This role requires proficiency in 3D CAD software such as Autodesk Inventor or similar, as well as expertise in performing structural calculations in accordance with NESC requirements. The candidate will leverage advanced analysis tools like RISA and PLS-Pole to evaluate utility structures, ensuring safety, compliance, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and layout power line systems, including overhead and underground distribution and transmission lines, ensuring compliance with NESC standards and local regulations.

  • Develop foundation designs for utility structures, including poles, towers, and other support systems, accounting for soil conditions and structural requirements.

  • Perform structural calculations and analyses for utility structures using software such as RISA, PLS-Pole, or equivalent tools to ensure stability and safety under various load conditions.

  • Create detailed 3D models and drawings using Autodesk Inventor or similar 3D CAD software for utility components and assemblies.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including project managers, field engineers, and construction crews, to ensure seamless project execution.

  • Conduct site assessments and provide technical recommendations for optimizing utility structure placement and design.

  • Review and interpret engineering specifications, standards, and codes to ensure designs meet all regulatory and client requirements.

  • Prepare technical reports, design documentation, and construction drawings for submission to stakeholders and regulatory bodies.

  • Support project bidding processes by providing accurate cost estimates and material specifications for utility designs.

  • Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in utility design and structural analysis software.

Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in utility design, with a focus on power line layout and foundation design.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor or equivalent 3D CAD software for modeling and drafting.

  • Expertise in structural analysis software such as RISA, PLS-Pole, or similar tools.

  • Strong understanding of NESC requirements and other relevant industry standards (e.g., ASCE, IEEE).

  • Experience with geotechnical analysis for foundation design is a plus.

Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred but not required.

  • Soft Skills:

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of renewable energy systems, such as solar or wind, and their integration into utility infrastructure.

  • Previous experience working with utility companies, municipalities, or consulting firms on large-scale power distribution projects.
