Parks Apprentice Equipment Operator - Turf
Hiring Range: $ $22.30 per hour

About the Position:
Our Parks Department is seeking a motivated individual to join our team as a Turf Maintenance Apprentice. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about working outdoors, eager to learn about turf management practices, and interested in developing skills related to new turf installation, disease identification, and operation of various mowers and turf equipment. As an apprentice, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience under the guidance of experienced turf maintenance professionals while contributing to the upkeep and enhancement of our community parks.

What You'll Do: 

  • Operate and maintain a variety of turf equipment and machinery, including push mowers, riding mowers, aerators, top dressers, and edgers. 
  • Assist in the preparation and installation of new turf areas within municipal parks, including soil preparation, sod laying, seeding, and irrigation setup. 
  • Learn to identify common turf diseases, pests, and weeds and assist in implementing appropriate treatment and prevention measures. 
  • Participate in routine turf maintenance tasks such as mowing, trimming, fertilizing, aerating, and overseeding to ensure the health and vitality of turf areas 
  • Collaborate with other parks department staff to coordinate turf maintenance activities and support overall park operations.

What We're Looking For: 

  • One year (1) of general labor experience. 
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. 
  • Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a valid Colorado Commercial Driver License within 6 months of hire as required in assigned area of responsibility. 
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

This position is a safety position, which means you will be subject to random drug screens due to the nature of the work performed.
