ABOUT THIS ROLE
Position and Overview:
We are seeking a Software Engineer Architect to drive the design and integration of scalable applications and enterprise systems. This role combines hands-on development with architectural leadership, requiring expertise in modern software practices, cloud platforms, and cross-functional collaboration. FOCUS is a subsidiary of PEAK6.
The ideal candidate will serve as a technical leader within the services group—guiding design decisions, mentoring developers, and shaping long-term technical direction. This position is ideal for a seasoned senior engineer ready to step into architecture leadership, or an established software architect who enjoys staying close to the code.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of internal applications and enterprise system integrations, leveraging modern cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and cloud‑native architectures to deliver scalable, secure solutions
- Design, implement, and integrate modern RESTful APIs and related services to enable scalable, secure application functionality
- Blend architectural oversight with hand-on coding responsibilities (roughly 70% / 30% depending on project needs)
- Partner with cross-functional teams, including product, engineering, and third-party vendors to deliver integrated solutions
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and translate business requirements into robust technical solutions
- Translate technical concepts into clear language for non-technical stakeholders
- Provide leadership, guidance, and direction to internal and distributed / offshore development teams
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including experience in technical or architecture leadership
- Proven track record designing and delivering scalable enterprise applications and integrations
- Deep understanding of system architecture, APIs, and cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
- Strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills across distributed teams
- Hands-on development proficiency with relevant programming languages ((javascript / , Java, or C#) and UI frameworks (React or Angular)
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred)
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience working with offshore or distributed teams
- Familiarity with DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
- Strong analytical mindset and a passion for innovation
