The Respite Care Specialist provides essential operational support to Jewels Helping Hands' Respite and Recuperative Care Program. This position ensures the facility runs smoothly, prioritizing trauma-informed, empathetic care to meet guests' immediate needs. Specialists foster a safe, dignified, and restorative environment for individuals recovering from acute or chronic health challenges as they transition toward stable housing and improved health outcomes. The role involves close collaboration with healthcare providers, social workers, and other team members.

Key Responsibilities Include

Guest Support & Daily Operations:

  • Conduct guest intakes, orientation, and bed assignments.
  • Provide guests with hygiene kits, bedding, and meal access according to the program schedule.
  • Support medication storage and documentation while ensuring guests self-administer their medications.
  • Maintain organized and clean dormitories, common areas, and kitchens.

Engagement & Communication:

  • Build rapport with guests using compassionate and active listening.
  • Communicate respectfully, employing motivational interviewing and assertive engagement techniques.
  • Facilitate daily staff huddles and document key information in the staff log to ensure seamless communication across shifts.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and social workers to address guests' medical, mental health, and social needs.

Conflict Resolution & Safety:

  • Monitor guest behavior to ensure compliance with program expectations.
  • De-escalate conflicts using trauma-informed approaches and enforce safety protocols as needed.
  • Address rule violations in alignment with program procedures, issuing warnings and documenting incidents as appropriate.
  • Respond to medical emergencies, including administering CPR/First Aid and contacting emergency services.

Facility Management:

  • Conduct regular perimeter checks to maintain a secure and hazard-free environment.
  • Oversee donation intake, sorting, and distribution according to organizational guidelines.
  • Manage cleanliness and stock levels for supplies, including food, hygiene products, and cleaning materials.

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in facility operations, social services, or healthcare settings is highly recommended but not required.
  • Strong communication skills, demonstrating empathy and respect when working with diverse populations.
  • Commitment to fostering a safe and supportive environment aligned with the organization's mission and values.
  • Physical ability to lift, clean, and conduct perimeter checks as needed.

Certifications:

  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • CNA Preferred or relevant work experience

Work Environment

  • This position involves working in a facility environment with individuals experiencing trauma, substance use, and chronic health challenges.
  • The role requires frequent standing, walking, and occasional lifting.

Work Schedule

  • Position available for day shift (at least 1 weekend day required)
  • Work schedules typically consist of 32-40 hours per week, with shifts lasting 8 hours.
  • Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays may be required to ensure uninterrupted program operations.
