About the Role:

The Parks Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring that public parks and recreational areas are safe, clean, and well-maintained for community enjoyment. This position is responsible for performing skilled maintenance, repair, and construction tasks on County-owned facilities, grounds, and infrastructure. The technician will work both independently and as part of a team to address routine and emergency maintenance needs promptly and efficiently. By maintaining park infrastructure and grounds, the technician helps create a welcoming environment that supports outdoor activities and community events. The position also assists other crew members with projects and reports directly to the Parks Maintenance Supervisor.  Ultimately, this role contributes to enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors by sustaining attractive and accessible public green spaces. 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Legally licensed and insured to operate a motor vehicle in all weather conditions.
  • Must have experience in a related field such as HVAC, boilers, plumbing, carpentry, painting, electronics, welding, custodial, or grounds keeping.
  • Three to five years of increasingly responsible related work experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and experience including operation of heavy equipment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of college courses or trade certification in a maintenance-related field.
  • Valid Class "A" or "B" CDL state driver's license

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine landscaping duties such as mowing, trimming, planting, and watering to maintain healthy and attractive park grounds.
  • Perform a variety of additional and progressively more difficult maintenance, new construction, reconstruction/remodeling and repair services as assigned.  
  • Perform a variety of additional ground maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Complete work orders and accept verbal instructions from the Parks Management supervisory staff.

Skills:

The Parks Maintenance Technician utilizes a combination of technical and practical skills daily to maintain park environments. Must have a basic knowledge of electrical systems sufficient to change lighting components. Proficient skill level with personal computers and use of Excel and Word. Skill in the use of various hand tools and equipment; performing work according to verbal and written instructions. The ability to meet a regular work schedule, including short notice "after hour calls" such as snow removal, to work with heavy equipment and other types of equipment to perform various functions as necessary, to work outdoor conditions of extreme heat or cold for lengths of time, working on or around a body of water, to read and accurately interpret prints and construction drawings, and to take "after hour calls" as assigned snow removal or other facilities related operations on short notice. Proficiency with landscaping tools and machinery enables efficient upkeep of lawns, gardens, and natural areas. Mechanical skills are essential for diagnosing and repairing equipment and park infrastructure to ensure safety and functionality. Strong organizational skills help in managing maintenance schedules, inventory, and documentation accurately. Additionally, effective communication and teamwork skills facilitate coordination with colleagues and supervisors to address maintenance priorities and respond to community needs promptly.
